WINTER FISHING FOR LAZY LINESIDERS in SOUTH FLORIDA

Its winter time in South Florida and inshore water temperatures are the coldest of the year. Snooks are lethargic but even the laziest linesider has to eat! The distinctive snook is mostly dynamic during the warmer months but with a little skill and cleverness the snook can be positively targeted even in the coolest time of the year, by cool... floridians assume 65 degrees.
Now that February is here, Snook can now be harvested on the Atlantic coast of Florida by following the rules and slot size regulations. Since the peak of the cold front is in South Florida, the already lazy fish is not likely to use a lot of vitality pursuing a fast moving artificial lure. During the coldest stretches; snook have the capability to endure only on their stored fat. Cold spells have commonly been happily interrupted by fair weather that complements with plenty of sunshine and those are the days you want to get out on the water and fish! Even the slimmest rise in water temps can send a snook on a feeding frenzy.
The gorgeous conditions of sunny South Florida will not only entice visitors to Palm Beach County or Broward County area but will entice any snook to catch a quick bite to eat, when the right opportunity puts itself at the perfect angle of approach. An imitation shrimp working slowly could very well flip on the “time to eat” switch. Many anglers insist on using soft swim baits. Of course, natural baits cannot be overlooked, handpicked shrimp, live pinfish, small croaker, perch or mojarra. When the wintertime snook decides its time to eat, it will also devour crabs and fresh shucked clams, so never rule anything out and don’t be afraid to experiment!
“The snook behavioral patterns are all essential for achieving any level of success. These fish are simply too smart to be outsmarted. Ask anyone who regularly targets snook and they’ll swear that wintertime fish offer one of the greatest challenges in the angling world.”
“Maximizing on each and every opportunity is key for that one solid thump!”
