Trees around homes in Palm Beach County not only help reduce the amount of energy your home requires, but they also add to your property value, reduce your carbon footprint, improve the air quality, and catch stormwater runoff. According to the Arbor Day Foundation, “Planting the right tree in the right place is key to maximizing the energy-saving benefits that those trees provide. When planted properly, a single tree can save a homeowner up to 20% on energy costs.” The program is designed to help people plant trees on their property for maximum energy savings as part of Arbor Day Foundation efforts. The program partners with cities, states, energy companies, corporations, and nonprofit organizations to distribute trees throughout the country.

To get started visit Community Canopy and type in your address. This will tell you if you are eligible based on location, your area’s partner group, and which trees are available to you. For the Southeast Florida area there are a variety of trees are on hand throughout spring 2022. The varieties for the area consist of a potted 1-gallon Live Oak, Autumn Blaze Maple, Bald cypress, Muskogee Crape myrtle and Dahoon Holly

After you enter your address, the website will bring up a satellite view of your property, and then drag the corners of a rectangle around your property to show the dimensions of your house.

Then choose a species of tree. Simply drag the tree to various places in your yard and the website will estimate the energy savings the tree will bring you. Then finalize the selection.

Future generations and the Earth “thank you”!
