Thanksgiving is a time-honored tradition in all parts of our great nation in which we celebrate the 1621 Plymouth feast and thanksgiving prompted by a hearty harvest. Thanksgiving in the United States has been observed on various dates throughout history.  Prior to President Lincoln, Thanksgiving observation varied from state to state.  By the 19th century, the final Thursday in November had become customary for most states.  It was an attempt to foster unity between the Northern and the Southern states.  Sadly, because of the Civil War, some of the Confederate States refused to recognize Lincoln’s suggested “final Thursday of November” to be a nationwide day for Thanksgiving, it did not take effect until the 1870’s.  Then in December of 1941, by…

Waterfront Properties and Club Communities is pleased to announce its connection with the November Juvenile Diabetes Awareness Month campaign.   In an effort to raise awareness and inform you of some common symptoms that may be warning signs of Type 1 Diabetes. Dive into the Halloween Spirit This Season!

The Palm Beach Gardens Recreation & Parks Division will make a splash Oct. 27 when it sponsors the fourth-annual Family Pumpkin Dive.

Those who want to take home a traditional orange gourd in time for Halloween are invited to come to the Aquatic Complex at 4404 Burns Road at 3 p.m. to dive in and claim a pumpkin. There will be 100 pumpkins available.

Participants are welcome to carve and decorate their jack o’lanterns-to-be before taking them home.

Cost is $5 for residents and $6 for nonresidents. For information, call 561-630-1100.

HALLOWEEN CONCERT SATURDAY OCTOBER 27th CARLIN PARK SEABREEZE AMPHITHEATRE

AEG  LIVE presents Matisyahu live in concert beginning at 6:30 pm, doors open at 5:30pm.  Grammy nominated reggae and alternative rock musician Matisyahu will be headlining Saturday night Halloween Fest at the Seabreeze Amphitheatre.  Other artists to be performing that evening will be The Constellations, Fresh Catch and DJ Lance of Kulcha Shok.

The concert kicks off Matisyahu’s fall tour for his latest album.  Interestingly, he grew up in White Plains, NY as Matthew Paul Miller, attending Hebrew school at the local synagogue.  He rebelled for a bit, dropped out of high school, took a wrong turn and ending up finishing high school at a wilderness program in Oregon.  Eventually he reconnected with his Jewish roots and adopted Orthodox Judaism.  At 19, he…

Fall is finally here which means a number of things; the holidays are right around the corner, the weather is great and October is ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month.’ During the month of October the nation embraces the affected, the survivors and those who have been touched by the breast cancer.  People across America join in on the fight for the cure, with local fundraisers and events that bring in millions of dollars to aid in the research of breast cancer and a cure.

‘Floral & Marine Life’ Exhibit Graces Palm Beach Gardens City Hall

The latest GardensArt exhibit at Palm Beach Gardens City Hall is titled “Floral & Marine Life” and depicts tropical plants and underwater creatures.

The artist, Nancy Tilles, is an award-winning oil painter who has lived in South Florida for more than 30 years. Originally from New York – as most owners of South Florida real estate are – she now lives in Palm Beach Gardens.

GardensArt is an art-in-public-places program sponsored by the city and an asset to those who own homes in Palm Beach Gardens. The program presents the work of local artists year round in the building’s lobby. All exhibits and receptions are free and open to the public.
