Little Moir’s Food Shack in Jupiter is known for its inspired fresh fish dishes and live music, but this Sunday they’re using their culinary gifts for a greater good.

On Sunday, November 4th from 5-8 pm, Food Shack will be hosting a night with dinner, drinks, live music, a silent auction, and raffles to fundraise for other families who may not be able to afford a large Thanksgiving.

Tickets are $85, and 100% of ticket sales and proceeds will go to Merciful Heavens of Jupiter, Florida. The non-profit provides families in need with a gift of 35 pounds of fresh food just in time for Thanksgiving including turkey, potatoes, corn, beans, onions, apples, cranberry, broth, stuffing, and pumpkin pie.

Cuban immigration has greatly influenced South Florida.  Present day Miami, and a lot southeast Florida reflects a rich multicultural hub of various traditions, foods and culture. 

The first wave of immigrants occurred after the Cuban Revolution of 1959 led by Fidel Castro. Many political refugees came with the idea that the new government would not last long, and their stay in the U.S. was temporary. During the mid 17th century, legend has it that pirates found refuge 450 miles off the port of Palm Beach on the Bahamian island of Mayaguana. After long ocean voyages, they dug a well in the middle of the island in search of drinkable water, and would fill their casks before setting sail once again.

Fast forward to present day, and Pirate’s Well in Lake Park toasts to this sentiment as a friendly refuge for Northern Palm Beach locals to quench their thirst after leisurely days on the water with family and friends.
