The Manatee Lagoon is the perfect place to bring your kids or friends to beat the heat this summer in Florida! The Manatee Lagoon is an FPL Discovery Center that overlooks the warm Intracoastal Waters of the Palm Beach Inlet. The lagoon fills up with manatees year round but especially during the winter months when the warm water runs off of the Florida Power and Light Company’s Next Generation Clean Energy Center. This time of year is sea turtle nesting season in Florida. The majestic sea turtles make their way out of the ocean and onto shore to lay their eggs. During the summer months, Jupiter becomes a safe haven for nesting turtles that have been coming to lay their eggs on these beaches for hundreds of years. 

The town makes a great effort to change all of the beach road lighting to an ambient red color that will not disturb the turtles and prevent them from coming ashore to nest. The traffic lights get a special filter that makes the light only noticeable to cars driving along the road and the correct angle and of course there are strict rules observers must follow when it comes to watching the turtles nest. Weeks ago, the town announced it would be closing the beloved and highly trafficked Burt Reynolds Park West in Jupiter to add some new improvements. The plan was to close the park fro June 1 to December 31. But after an outpouring of concern from local boaters and fishermen in regard to the success of their business and leisure surrounding the world of boating, the town delayed the improvements. 

There has not been a new release of when the park will be closed for construction yet, but fear not local boaters, it will not happen this summer.

The plans for the new park call for adding two-dozen parking spaces large enough to fit a vehicle and boat trailer and to reduce the number of spaces for vehicles without trailers.…
