TURTLE FEST… APRIL 5, 2014 …OCEAN-SIDE FAMILY FUN

The 11th anniversary of TurtleFest 2014, the Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s largest annual festival, will take place Saturday, April 5, from 10:00 am – 6:00pm (rainday Sunday, April 6th).  Over 10,000 guests are expected at the FREE admission festival, which promotes conservation through interactions with threatened and endangered sea turtles, as well as art, music, shopping, games, educational presentations, a “global village”, and much more!

SWING BY SPRING TRAING at ROGER DEAN STADIUM

Spring officially starts this week so swing by and see some “spring training” at Roger Dean Stadium in Abacoa, Jupiter.  The Miami Marlins and the St. Louis Cardinals spring train in the striking stadium that was built in 1998.  Choose from luxury box seating, or two levels of permanent seating, plenty of parking and delicious concessions offering gourmet options to hot dogs, peanuts and Cracker Jacks.

JUPITER INLET VILLAGE REDEVELOPMENT NEWS

A lot of discussions and meetings about the redevelopment of the Jupiter Inlet Village have caused the Town Council to pause and revisit their approach for the area of Guanabanas, Square Grouper, Bubba Gump’s, Harbourside Place, etc.  Their vision is of “a pedestrian-friendly, vibrant, commercial environment that provides public access to the Inlet Village and its waterfront”.

The Town Council has listened to the feedback from the community during discussions about the proposed parking garage and parking scenarios.  The evolving process has led to the withdrawal of the parking garage in favor of a proposed parking lot on Parkway Street.  The lot takes place of a 3 to 4 story-parking garage, if approved on April 1; the lot will provide 300 parking spaces…

CHANGES IN HOMEBUYERS

According to data provided by the National Association of Realtors, a lack of houses for sale continues to lift the prices of homes for sale in much of the country, and our area.  This in turn has pushed down the number of existing homes sold in January.

The torrential weather has not helped either. NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun said, “Disruptive and prolonged winter weather patterns across the country are impacting a wide range of economic activity, and housing is no exception.   Some housing activity will be delayed until spring.”

The National Association of Realtors noted some significant changes among the population of homebuyers.

SPRING SELLING SEASON ...HOME PRICE HIKES SLOW BUT STEADY

South Florida saw the biggest gain in a monthly measure of national home prices replicating a slow but steady, continued upswing momentum in real estate market for Palm Beach County.   

Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties experienced an increase in single-family home prices according to the Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller Index.  According to the most recently released Index, single-family home prices have increased 0.09 percent from the previous month.

Last Tuesday’s report from Standard & Poor, as well as others, point to a slight deceleration in home prices as a normal beginning of the upturn cycle at the end of February. Winter shows no signs of cooling home prices according to the Standard & Poor/Case-Shiller home price indices.  They are…

Russell Henly Survives Playoff For Honda Classic Win

On a day where the golf course was playing tough and the top of the leaderboard was dropping shots left and right, Russell Henley survived a four man playoff to win The Honda Classic at PGA National.

With the wind swirling for most of the day, the Champions Course made some of the best golfers in the world look like mere mortals on Sunday, leading to an exciting and action packed finish. Rory Mcllroy entred the final round with a two shot lead and despite a four-over 74, managed to hold onto the lead for the majority of the day. LOXAHATCHEE RIVER RAILROAD DRAWBRIDGE DILEMA…32 RAPID SPEED TRAINS A DAY?

Are 32 rapidly moving speed trains necessary to cross the moveable bridge over the Loxahatchee River?  The people at All Aboard Florida (Florida East Coast Industries) rapid train service seem to think so.  Based on the anticipated number of trains per day between Miami and Orlando, All Aboard Florida wishes to provide hourly service starting in the early morning hours and ending in the late evening to meet the anticipated demand by tourists, locals and business travelers.

The addition of 32 passenger trains, to the existing freight trains, that raise and lower the railway bridge daily could cause a bit of boating back up on the Loxahatchee River.  The railway bridge lowers for about 12 minutes each time a freight train crosses – generally at night.  The…

Honda Classic Week Is Here

The time has arrived once again for Palm Beach County to welcome some of the best golfers in the world as the PGA Tour’s annual tour stop in Palm Beach Gardens takes place this week.

For the eighth consecutive year, the Champions Course at PGA National plays host to the event that will see the top eight golfers in the Official World Golf Rankings compete. The list of those competing includes the likes of Tiger Woods (Jupiter Island), Rory Mcllroy (Palm Beach Gardens), defending Masters champion Adam Scott, and Phil Mickelson. Also included in this year’s field are hometown golfers and roommates Peter Uihlein and Brooks Koepka from the European Tour.
