Palm Beach County bunch aficionados and cocktail fanatics mark your calendars.  May 16, 2021 is National Mimosa Day! This elegant mixed drink, which is equal parts brut champagne and fruit juice, usually orange juice, has become a brunch staple.

The drink dates to the 1920’s. It is extremely likely that the concoction got its name from the yellow flower native to Australia, the Mimosa flower.  In the 1940’s, Alfred Hitchcock popularizes the mimosa drink in the U.S., and it soars in popularity.

Mimosas and brunch go together like eggs and bacon, pancakes and syrup, or orange juice and…champagne.  Mimosas do not always have to be made with orange juice. Try substituting it with your favorite fruit juice instead. Cranberry, grapefruit, and blueberry are great with champagne.  You can toss in a few berries or fruit slices in as well to give it extra flavor.  It also makes it looks more festive.

Several Palm Beach County restaurants offer Mimosas for brunch.  Try one of these local favorites:

        +  The Cooper

        +  Guanabanas

        +   Prosecco Cafe

        +   Cafe’ Sole’
