Palm Beach County Weekend Fishing Report: 8/16/2018
This weekend nothing in particular seems to be running through our waters, but in the spirit of fishing we encourage you to be optimistic, get out there and prove us wrong! Make sure to tag any good catches you post with #WaterfrontProperties for a chance to be featured! Here's this weekend's fishing report:
If you’re looking for dolphin, the bite has been pretty slow, but as usual it’s a matter of being in the right place at the right time. Weed lines have been barren, but if you find any floating debris on the larger side, you may be able to conjure some luck trolling with bonita strips or ballyhoo. Anyone who has caught mahi worth keeping lately has been around 1100 feet or deeper. Shallower than that and you’ll be forever cleaning weed from your lines with minimal results.
A few kings have been hanging out around 90-150’, and the last wahoo I’ve heard about was caught during Anglers For The Cure last week. Get your Junkanoo Lures ready for when the wahoo bite hopefully picks up a little with the sturgeon moon rolling in at the end of the month. In true Jupiter fashion, the bonita haven’t gone anywhere, so the Bonita Blast Fishing Tournament this weekend in Stuart should be pretty competitive.
Other than that, a few summertime sailfish are around if you’re into kite fishing, and the catch and release snook fishing is still going strong, but you can’t keep anything until September 1st! A few tarpon have been spotted chasing some mullet and glass minnows near Juno Pier and Jupiter Inlet, along with some jacks and Spanish mackerel.Â
Side Note: Recreational blue crabbing opens back up on August 20th. Here's how to catch them.
