South Florida’s Palm Beach County is a slice of heaven where you can exercise outside, essentially, any time of year.  However, this time of year is almost too good to be true not to escape the gym and get outside. Nature is a perfect playground.

According to a study in the journal “Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise”, people are as much as 40 percent more likely to exercise regularly in the summer than in the winter.  Most of the heart benefiting effort comes from leg muscles and glutes.  Imagine the challenge of running beach sand.  Sounds a bit tougher than the treadmill at the gym.

Don’t bother with old school sit-ups to work your core muscles.  Concentrate the exercise routine on stability.  Surfing, kayaking, kite surfing or standup paddle boarding in the Atlantic Ocean will give your core and stability a run for the money.

Whether it’s a high- or low-impact activity in a class setting or a walk on your own, it can get a bit boring.  It’s inevitable after a while, that you will begin to feel that your workout is on autopilot. The “same old” repetitive workout will lose its luster and become less demanding and less beneficial to your mind, body and soul.

Speaking of mind, body and soul, yoga is amazing!  Think of stepping out of the yoga studio and taking a sunset yoga class at the Jupiter Lighthouse Museum or get find your zen at the beach at sunrise.  South Florida is a top outdoor gym for the entire family.
