Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is asking seniors and anyone who has recently traveled down from New York to self-isolate and quarantine themselves for the next 14 days. This is critically important because when it comes to the coronavirus seniors are very at risk. New York travelers are being targeted as well because NYC has a very high (and rising) number of cases and medical experts are worried that some of these cases may spread into Florida as the Sunshine State is a popular destination among New Yorkers.

The governor’s requests came in the form of two executive orders issued late Tuesday.

The first order instructs anyone who has traveled from New York state over the past three weeks to immediately self-isolate for 14 days. It includes those who have come to Florida in the past 14 days.

It was prompted by the large number of New Yorkers who left the state and went to Florida after restrictions were enacted there because of the virus outbreak. The order expands on one the governor issued Tuesday instructing people flying from the Empire State to immediately self-isolate. That order wasn’t retroactive and only applied to people flying into Florida from New York.

Remember, and this applies to everyone, avoid large gatherings, wash your hands, and self-isolate as much as possible!
