South Florida Fairgrounds hosts Yesteryear Village
The South Florida Fairgrounds, 9067 Southern Boulevard, West Palm Beach, is hosting a glance into to the past. This weekend on Saturday, August 8, 2016, the fairgrounds brings the past to life with Yesteryear Village.
Yesteryear Village is a step back in time and one of Palm Beach County’s imaginative events. This very distinctive cultural attraction features living and breathing interpretations of life prior to 1940. The event highlights building and artifacts from 1895 – 1945.
The historical park is spread over 10 acres of property on the fairgrounds and will allow you to explore South Florida’s rich and widespread history. Be transported into a different period of life in our area. “A time when schools were located in one small building and houses did not have running water. A time when people had goats, chickens, and sheep in their backyards....And a time when life was simple.”
Original and replicated buildings on display include a general store, a schoolhouse, a blacksmith shop, a farm and some houses. Take a guided tour of these buildings and look in wonder at period furnishings and various items from that time. Enjoy big band music from the only big band museum in America, the sally Bennett Big Band Hall of Fame Museum. Visit the general store and be delighted by the merchandise.
Discover the people and way of living of early Florida residents. The first real estate land boom in Florida occured in the 1920's. Miami had a reputation as a tropical paradise and a development boom ensued. This land boom shaped Florida's future for decades. But in rural areas life was much slower and relaxed. Visit Yesteryear Village and take a step back in time. For more information on this cultural attraction, please visit Yesteryear Village.
