Spring Decluttering Palm Beach Style
Spring is just around the corner here in the Palm Beaches. Spring-cleaning and decluttering go hand in hand, and with warmer weather on its way, it’s time to get a jump start on decluttering. If you are trying to sell your house, an organized closet, not one overstuffed with unwanted items, is important.
If you have a home in Jupiter it’s time to bring out the bathing suits, caftans and beach cover-ups. Put away the cold weather clothing. If you live in Palm Beach County you know we only get a handful of sweater days there shouldn’t be much to organize. No more need to wear socks with flip flops…lol.
It is important to declutter your house, it will appear to have more storage space. Most potential buyers want to feel like they can effortlessly fit all their possessions in the house and it still be well-organized.
The first step to decluttering is getting started. If you jump in without a plan, you're setting yourself up to be overwhelmed. Before you start, you should write out a simple checklist of what you hope to achieve. Start simple…Declutter your closet.
If going through your closet feels overwhelming, it’s time to clean it out. The essential organizational skills, to eliminate, categorize, and organize are learned tools and can be applied to all areas of life. To get you started, here are things to get rid of right now:
Stained or damaged clothing: Every now and then your beloved pieces are beyond repair, those shoes with the banged-up heels, or the jeans that are stained. Keep in mind that they are ruined and are just taking up space.
If you haven’t worn in a year; If you haven’t worn any piece of clothing from your closet in the last year, it means there is something isn’t right such as size or color. Clothes that don’t fit. If it’s too big, get rid of it. If it’s too small, get rid of it. Consequently, if you have not worn the article of clothing in the past year it’s time to donate or give these pieces away.
Wrap it up: Pack away and store off-season clothes and shoes. You know you won’t be needing wool, cashmere and boots in Spring and Summer unless you’re in Alaska.
