Now that Spring has arrived let us all take the opportunity to find the bright spots Jupiter, Florida. Spring is the perfect opportunity to build outdoor family time into your schedule. Obviously, it coincides with our government stay-at-home request, so the interest to get outside into our yards has turned up.  Are you “itching” to get out?  Your backyard garden may be a pleasant getaway for the mind.

Gardeners have known that working with soil and plants is an incredible way to connect with natural surroundings and assert it eases their worries. It’s incredibly therapeutic to watch things grow.

Gardening underlines that we are all nurturers. Horticulture is a great equalizer: plants don’t give a fig who is tending them and for those with mental health problems to be able to contribute to such a transformative activity can help boost self-esteem.

According to Alive.Com, gardening, regardless of our age, is a great way to increase "physical activity by:

  • strengthening bones, muscles, and joints
  • improve our ability to do daily activities
  • prevent falls among older adults by improving balance
  • improve mental health and outlook
  • decrease lifestyle diseases such as obesity, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, heart disease, stroke, and some cancers
  • promote longer, healthier lives".
