The 3rd Annual Waste to Wonder Exhibit is being presented at GalleRe, Resource Depot, in Palm Beach County January 22, 2021 – March 11, 2021. The Resource Depot, 2508 Florida Avenue, West Palm Beach is a non for profit 501c3 organization and all donations are tax deductible. For 21 years, Resource Depot has tackled Palm Beach County’s growing waste problem by rescuing unwanted and excess materials, turning waste into wonder. Resource Depot collects donations from businesses and individuals and redistributes the items to teachers, artists, families, and other non-profit organizations that need them, encouraging creative, hands-on learning and innovation.

Then, head down to the West Palm Beach every Saturday morning for the GreenMarket.  The GreenMarket runs until April 2021. Those interested in arriving by boat can also take advantage of the City’s free public docks. If going to the GreenMarket by boat is not an option parking is free in the Evernia/Olive garage during market hours and a flat fee of $5 in the Banyan/Olive garage before 1 p.m.

Located in the Great Lawn area of Mounts Botanical Garden, 531 North Military Trail in West Palm Beach is this massive sculpture was designed by internationally acclaimed artist, Patrick Dougherty.  The Stickwork sculpture is created from 30,000 pounds of willow during a three-week “community build” project in which over 100 volunteers lent a helping hand.

Patrick Dougherty and his son/building partner, Sam Dougherty, along with the volunteers, completed the installation in a total of 632 hours over 159 shifts. Completed on January 26, 2019, visitors are now able to stroll through, appreciate, and become one with a living art experience!

On the morning of Jan. 19, 1977, snow fell in Palm Beach County.  I remember this day clearly as if it were yesterday!  I was in sixth grade at a small private school in West Palm Beach. It was 6:15 am and we left the house to get into my mother’s car for the long ride from the north end of the county south end to school.  On this exceptionally cold morning we blew “smoke” from our mouths with delight. That kind of cold rarely happened here in South Florida.  Then the most unexpected thing occurred…flurries…flurries of snow!!! Forty years ago today it snowed in Palm Beach County! It was AMAZING!!!

The City of West Palm Beach Division of Community Events will be navigating the new year with a program called “Revamp Fun in ’21”. The “Revamp Fun in ‘21” is a campaign to reintroduce popular signature scheduling events like Clematis by Night, Screen on the Green, and Sunday on the Waterfront beginning in January,2021. These family fun events will be held at the Meyer Amphitheatre , 104 Datura Street, in downtown West Palm Beach with all the CDC-recommended precautions in place. The location will be fenced for 10 weeks for “Revamp Fun in ’21”, which will run through early March of the new year.

A manatee rescued in West Palm Beach is now being treated in Miami at the Miami Seaquarium.  Police officers with Riviera Beach and West Palm Beach teamed up with officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) to rescue the manatee near the Manatee Lagoon.  A spokesman at Manatee Lagoon said the manatee is being treated for a severe lung infection.  The good news is she is eating regularly now.

Manatee Lagoon is one of Palm Beach County’s fun and engaging family-friendly attractions, with interactive, entertaining exhibits that tickle your curiosity about the environment of the Lake Worth Lagoon and the wonderful world of manatees. Due to COVID the family friendly attraction is temporarily closed.
