Ranked: Best Public Golf Courses Near West Palm Beach
- Abacoa Golf Club
- Almost everyone we discussed this with had Abacoa in their top three, and most said it was their favorite public course near West Palm. Being the best comes at a price, however, as Abacoa is also one of the most expensive public courses. Located in Jupiter, it's a beautiful course designed by Joe Lee, featuring excellent fairways and challenging elevation changes, which is rare for South Florida. It’s known for being well-maintained and playable for all skill levels, with a welcoming atmosphere.
- The Park West Palm
- The Park West Palm is hands-down the best public golf course in West Palm Beach. It's also the newest course to boost the area's reputation as a golf destination. This modern, public facility features a Gil Hanse-designed course that blends championship-level play with a relaxed, community vibe. While it's still the new kid on the block, The Park has received outstanding reviews, and people say the course is one of the best public tracks in all of Florida. Note: Tee times before 10:00 am are walking-only, and a caddie is mandatory before 9:00 am. The Park has a dynamic pricing model, which can mean that if you're looking to play when there's high demand, it'll probably be the most expensive public round you can find. The Park is complete with expansive practice areas, a 'lit-9' short course where you can play under the lights, and a top-tier clubhouse experience.
- North Palm Beach Country Club
- At North Palm Beach Country Club, you’ll find a rare publicly-available Jack Nicklaus Signature design. The course is known for its challenging layout, scenic views of the Intracoastal Waterway, and 'links' style. It’s one of the few municipal courses designed by Nicklaus and offers one of the best public golf experiences in Palm Beach County. As an added bonus, the club recently redid it’s restaurant, and it’s getting a lot of positive reviews.
- Osprey Point
- Osprey Point Golf Course in Boca Raton is one of four county-run courses near West Palm Beach, and it's unanimously considered the best of the four. It's a top-rated public facility with three 9-hole courses and is certified as an Audubon International Classic Sanctuary. It’s praised for its eco-friendly design, pristine conditions, and peaceful, natural setting.
- Sandhill Crane Golf Club
- Sandhill Crane Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens is a public course that winds through wetlands and preserves, offering a unique, nature-rich golf experience. It’s the only course in Florida that’s both city-owned and located in a natural preserve. Many consider this a good, challenging course with a somewhat odd layout. There's one short par-5 that is shaped like a Z and almost certainly requires three short shots to reach the green. The clubhouse and restaurant are nice, the food is good, and the staff and crew is very friendly. Plus, there are two driving ranges: one where you're hitting balls into a lake, and one that has a slew of Trackman bays.
- Atlantic National Golf Club
- Atlantic National Golf Club in Lake Worth is an excellent public course designed by Joe Lee, known for its player-friendly layout with strategic water hazards and well-kept greens. It offers a relaxed, affordable golf experience in a scenic South Florida setting.
- Winston Trails Golf Club
- Winston Trails Golf Club in Lake Worth is a semi-private course, also designed by Joe Lee, featuring wide fairways, fast greens, and a layout that suits all skill levels. It offers a country club feel with public access and a strong local following.
- Park Ridge Golf Course
- Park Ridge Golf Course in Lake Worth is a unique public course built on a former landfill. While that sounds odd at first, don't knock it 'til you try it. There are very few places in Florida that can offer that kind of surprising elevation changes and panoramic views. It features six par 3s, six par 4s, and six par 5s, making for a fun and varied round.
- Atlantis Country Club
- Atlantis Country Club is a public course with a classic layout, beautiful trees, and a relaxed, no-frills atmosphere. It’s known for being affordable yet well-maintained, and enjoyable for golfers of all skill levels.
- Okeeheelee Golf Course
- Okeeheelee Golf Course in West Palm Beach is another one of the county-run courses. It's a public, 27-hole facility set in a sprawling park with lakes, wildlife, and wide fairways. It’s beginner-friendly but still offers enough variety and challenge for seasoned players when playing from the back tees.
