Community Garden Feeds Local Residents in Palm Beach Gardens

Located in Midtown off PGA Boulevard in Palm Beach Gardens is a one-tenth-acre garden where volunteers grow vegetables they donate to local charities.

Providing vegetable to places like the Quantum House in West Palm Beach and Place of Hope in Palm Beach Gardens, volunteers till, plant, weed, and harvest everything from green beans to cabbage on the property. For the last three years, the property owned by the Borland Center has attracted volunteers from all over Northern Palm Beach County for a few hours every week.

Work to Start on Jupiter’s Fullerton Island

Fullerton Island is getting a makeover. Workers will start removing nonnative vegetation on the town-owned island in Jupiter this month in preparation for the new nature preserve for small boats and kayaks.

The county plans to not only remove vegetation such as Australian pines and Brazilian pepper, but they will also grade the island to a level for wetland preservation. This will promote growth for native plants and increase water flow. About 3,000 knee-high mangrove seedlings will be planted on the 12-acre island just west of Burt Reynolds Park.

“We’re restoring a vital natural area with mangroves and other native plants that will draw birds and be a nursery for sea life,” said Julie Bishop, an environmental program supervisor with Palm Beach County…

Golf is a great game but can sometimes be played to slow. We live in the golf mecca, with some of the best courses in the country located in the Palm Beach Gardens and Jupiter area. However, many people make the decision to not play golf because its takes up too much time. With that in mind, the Golf Channel has named June Pace of Play Month. National Learn To Row Day Set for June 1st

Have you ever watched rowing at the Olympics and thought that it would be fun to try? Well here is your opportunity to give it a shot.

On Saturday, June 1, US Rowing will hold its 12th annual National Learn to Row Day at rowing clubs and health clubs throughout the United States.

One of the rowing clubs participating in the event is the North Palm Beach Rowing Club here in Northern Palm Beach County. NPBRC is based out of Bert Winters Park in Juno Beach.

Rowing is not only a great form of exercise, it is also one of the oldest Olympic sports in existence. It is also another great way to get out on the water and enjoy the beauty of the Intracoastal Waterway.

Warren Bottke is the PGA Master Professional at Abacoa Golf Club in Jupiter and now he is also the president of the South Florida PGA.

Bottke, who has been a member of the PGA since 1994, has been recognized over the years for his ability to use golf buzzwords favored by the PGA of America through lessons and clinics he conducts for golfers of all skill levels. Local Coach Helps Send Girls to College

In a five year period, basketball coach Mike Larkin and his Hoops City program has sent countless high school seniors to college on basketball scholorships. Larkin has coached and trained players in the United States, Europe, and the Bahamas, so it's no wonder the Jupiter resident has players from all over Palm Beach County coming to play for him.

Since he started his Hoops City program five years ago, the Jupiter resident has coached local girls ranging from fifth to 12th grade. This year, five more of his players recieved scholorships to play college basketball. Kiandra Bowers, Ayanna Holmes, Samantha Goldis, Elizabeth Bolchoz, and Lauren Janka all signed letters of intent to play college basketball at schools throughout the country.
