Always remember this day in history, where you were, what you did, and who you were with.  The September 11 terrorist attacks of the four hijacked planes resulted in widespread loss and destruction.

Today, the nation honors the victims’ families and others by gathering at Ground Zero, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, PA., by remembering that fateful day 11 years ago.  There will be a moment of silence for each time a hijacked plane hit its target and one for when for when the flight crashed into the field in Shanksville.

Locally, the Fire Chief’s Association of Palm Beach County will hold a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at the Christ Fellowship auditorium.  Attendees are invited to visit the 9/11 Memorial at the Palm Beach Gardens Fire Station 3 at 5161…

RAINY DAYS AND MONDAYS

DON’T GET US DOWN…

istock_000003683701small_786_02

Perhaps, “Rainy days and Mondays” got the Carpenters down because they didn’t live in our area!  If the immensely popular brother and sister duo from the 1970’s had chosen South Florida, they might have found plenty of things to do on a rainy day, but they wouldn’t have had that Billboard Top 100 record and their fourth gold single!

If you’re not familiar with the duo The Carpenters, they were in great demand in the 1970’s.  Richard and Karen created a soft musical style that made them top selling artists when most contemporary music was hard hitting rock and roll.   They recorded 11 albums and television specials.

Maybe, if they had lived in our area the lyrics of “Rainy days and, Mondays” could…

The Lionfish Derby at Sailfish Marina

One of south Florida’s prized possessions is its ocean and all of the wildlife within it. The fishing industry in Jupiter and the rest of Palm Beach County is flourishing, from sport fishing in deep waters to fishing the mangroves along the river. However, our precious waters are facing a threat. What would you do if you had the opportunity to help extinguish the problem? This weekend you will have the chance!

Just this week, wildlife officials have opened a weekend event to help take care of this invasive problem, the Lionfish. You have most certainly seen this beautiful fish gracefully gliding in large tanks and aquariums in exotic resorts. The Lionfish has slowly populated our reefs as well as the waters of the Bahamas. The problem with the…

The London Olympics 2012

Did you know Olympic athletes have to pay taxes for the medals they bring home to the United States?  It is not due to the actual value of the medal itself, but it is attached to the prize money that accompanies the gold, silver, or bronze medal the Olympian wins.

The United States Olympic Committee rewards our Olympic athletes with cash prizes.  For gold, a medalist receives $25,000.  A silver medalist receives $15,000 and finally a bronze medal is worth $10,000.  It is estimated that a gold medalist will pay approximately $9,000 in taxes for each gold medal won.  Silver medal winners will pay just under $5,400 in taxes and the bronze medal recipients will pay the I.R.S. around $3,500 in taxes.  American medalists face income tax rate of 35%.  They…
