In a survey conducted earlier this year, more Americans are moving to Florida. The survey was conducted by the moving and storage company U-Haul and it states that Florida has taking over the number one spot of America’s Top Moving Destination.

Texas has been the previous winner for the last four years. The survey stated that Florida has been showing signs of growth for many years and people feel comfortable moving to Florida because they know there are jobs. Florida is also filled with top attractions and theme parks, is a family-friendly state, boating activities, hundreds of golf courses, sunshine, perfect weather, top recreational facilities, and no matter where you live in the state you are never more than an hour away from the beach.

Palm Beach County School District have been weighing all the options when it comes to going back to school and what it would look like in the fall.

Summer vacation just started but students are due back in the class on August 10th, but a lot of questions and concerns remain about what the schools and classrooms will look like amid the pandemic.

The school board met Wednesday, June 10th to begin discussing plans for the new 2020-2021 school year and they are weighing three possible scenarios.

Scenarios include:

  • Students resuming in-person instruction full time
  • Full-time distance learning
  • Hybrid Learning where students come in two days a week and continue distance learning three days a week

The South Florida Science Center and Aquarium is currently hosting a virtual summer camp this June and will transition into in-person sessions starting June 22nd. The summer camp is designed for children ages seven to twelve.

The virtual camps will feature the innovative Camp-in-a-Box which contained a majority of the supplies needed for the at-home experiment and can be picked up at the center. The summer camps last a week and each week is a different topic and experiment.

Next week, starting Monday, June 15th, the theme for the camp is In My Backyard. The session will explore Florida’s ecosystems and will last until Friday, June 19th. The sessions are an hour long and are spilt up between two age groups, ages seven to nine and ten to twelve.

Martin County, like many counties in Florida has entered Phase Two of Reopening South Florida last week. Nearby counties Palm Beach County, Broward County and Miami-Dade County are still waiting to hear back from Governor DeSantis on whether they can enter Phase Two. Phase Two took effect on Friday, June 5th in Martin County.

Several places across Palm Beach County have partnered together to help bring that summer camp experience and activities to your home. Four local organizations, Manatee Lagoon, Loggerhead Marinelife Center, Lion Country Safari and the Palm Beach Zoo and Conservation Society have partnered to reveal their Wild About Wildlife Virtual Summer Camp Program.

The virtual summer camp is aimed for children ages 6 to 9 years and the registration for the weekly sessions is free with a voluntary donation to help support these local organizations and educational programs.

Palm Beach County tourism officials and leaders are hoping this news will make people more comfortable traveling to and visiting the area.

The Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach recently announced that sea turtles are thriving during the COVID-19 pandemic and during the beach closures. From mid-March to Mid-May the beaches in Palm Beach County were closed to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Since the beaches have been previously closed for two months, the center noticed a change in the sea turtle’s behavior and in their nesting habits. The turtles were nesting more efficiently and a little quicker than normal because of the beach closures.

Last week, Governor DeSantis gave permission for several counties in Florida to begin Phase Two of Reopening Florida. Palm Beach County, Broward County, and Miami-Dade County were not among those listed to begin Phase Two, but were allowed to send a letter to the Governor stating their Phase Two Reopening Plan.

The Palm Beach Zoo and Conservation Society announced Wednesday their reopening date. The Zoo is opening to the general public today, Friday, June 5th after being temporality closed.

The Zoo opened first to its members on Monday, June 1st and today the zoo will be open to everyone from 9 am to 5 pm. According to the news release, the zoo will operate normally with a few exceptions and restrictions.

Restrictions include:

The iconic Breakers Hotel on Palm Beach is now open for hotel guests. The historic hotel opened its door to guests on Friday, May 22nd after a 10-week temporary closure amidst the coronavirus pandemic. Since being closed the staff of the hotel has examined and reviewed every area and hotel space to enhanced safeguards.

Governor DeSantis announced on Wednesday that parts of Florida can begin Phase Two of reopening. Governor DeSantis spoke at Universal Studios CityWalk in Orlando. The Governor said that Florida is ready to enter Phase Two of its reopening plan.

The new Phase Two guidelines apply to 64 counties in Florida, Palm Beach County, Broward County and Miami-Dade County are excluded from Phase Two at this time. However, county officials and mayors can submit their own reopening plans to the Governor for consideration.
