The quaint seaside Town of Hobe Sound is celebrating the 20th Anniversary Hobe Sound Festival of the Arts.  The festival returns with the some of the nation's top artists and skilled craft artisans. This 2-day event is a socially distanced outdoor art show and craft marketplace.  The festival is a community event taking place on Dixie Highway from Bridge Road to Venus Street.

For the past 20 years thousands of local residents and visitors have been invited to stroll amidst life-size sculptures, spectacular paintings, one-of-a-kind jewels, photography, ceramics and more.  Artists are present on site to chat and discuss their inspirations as well as the processes for each unique piece.

Located in the Great Lawn area of Mounts Botanical Garden, 531 North Military Trail in West Palm Beach is this massive sculpture was designed by internationally acclaimed artist, Patrick Dougherty.  The Stickwork sculpture is created from 30,000 pounds of willow during a three-week “community build” project in which over 100 volunteers lent a helping hand.

Patrick Dougherty and his son/building partner, Sam Dougherty, along with the volunteers, completed the installation in a total of 632 hours over 159 shifts. Completed on January 26, 2019, visitors are now able to stroll through, appreciate, and become one with a living art experience!

The iconic Palm Beach hotel, The Breakers is celebrating its 125th Anniversary in 2021. The hotel was founded by Henry M. Flagler, one of America’s great industrialist. The Breakers Hotel was founded in 1896 by Flagler, and Flagler is known to have transformed South Florida into a popular vacation destination.

Henry M. Flagler first made his debut on the island with the construction of The Royal Poinciana, a six-story hotel located on the intracoastal side of the island. On the morning of Jan. 19, 1977, snow fell in Palm Beach County.  I remember this day clearly as if it were yesterday!  I was in sixth grade at a small private school in West Palm Beach. It was 6:15 am and we left the house to get into my mother’s car for the long ride from the north end of the county south end to school.  On this exceptionally cold morning we blew “smoke” from our mouths with delight. That kind of cold rarely happened here in South Florida.  Then the most unexpected thing occurred…flurries…flurries of snow!!! Forty years ago today it snowed in Palm Beach County! It was AMAZING!!!
