Palm Beach Gardens is a city in northern Palm Beach County that is home to roughly 56,300 residents and is a principal city of the Miami metropolitan area. The city has a total area of 55,000 square miles and roughly two tenths of a mile features water.

Prior to becoming a city in 1969, Palm Beach Gardens was primarily cattle ranches and pine forests with swamp lands to the west. In 1959, the land was purchased by John D. MacArthur and he announced his plan to develop 4,000 acres and build homes for 55,000 people. A new Jack Nicklaus designed, 18-hole golf course is coming to the Avenir development on western Northlake Boulevard.

Palm Beach Gardens-based Nicklaus Design, founded more than a half-century ago by legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus, has been tapped to design the 18-hole Signature Golf Course on the northwest portion of the 4,763-acre development.

According to the Palm Beach Post, the company also will design a 9-hole, par-3 short course and a state-of-the-art training and practice facility as part of the private Panther National Golf Club within the Avenir master-planned community.
