The Town of Jupiter and the Village of Tequesta are nestled between Palm Beach Gardens and Stuart. Both areas cater to the outdoor style, as they wrap around the Loxahatchee River and Intracoastal Waterway, which provide incomparable views to residents. For this reason, water sports and boating are abundant. Jupiter and Tequesta also offer their share of championship golf courses and pristine beaches frequented often under consistently sunny skies.

A recent study by the University of Exeter in the UK found that people who live less than a mile from the coast are 22 percent less likely to have symptoms of a mental health disorder compared to those who lived much farther away.

Is it the calm swaying of the palms or the foo-foo drinks with the umbrellas, or perhaps the clear blue color of the water that helps improve your mood?

Researchers concluded that access to “blue spaces,” or spaces by the sea or water, may play a big role in a person’s mental health. While many studies have shown that getting out into nature, even for just 20 minutes, can improve your mood, this specific finding could make a big difference in helping a person’s well-being, as well as the coastal environments themselves.

The Town of Jupiter’s Loxahatchee River Center, located at 805 North U.S. Highway One, invites you to flutter on over to the first Atala Butterfly Festival and Family Day. On Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020 will be celebrating the Atala butterfly! Once thought to be extinct, this beautiful butterfly is local and flourishing in our own backyard.

The Atala is a small colorful butterfly in the family Lycaenidae. It is found in southeastern Florida, the Bahamas, Cuba, the Cayman Islands, and on other Caribbean islands. Its coloration and habits are unique among butterflies within its scale. Due to the decline in the butterfly’s host plant, triggered by overharvesting the root of the plant for starch by early settlers, the Atala butterfly was thought to be…
