The Town of Jupiter and the Village of Tequesta are nestled between Palm Beach Gardens and Stuart. With the mullet run being the highlight of the past couple of weeks, most fishing has been geared toward snook, large tarpon, and amberjack chasing schools through inlets, inshore, on the beach, and at the Juno Pier. Your trustiest bait is live mullet itself, which can be found during low light periods of the day away from boat traffic. Everyone in Jupiter has seen the PonTiki boats cruising around the Jupiter Intracoastal during sunset. If you enjoy live music, beer, and good times, the best new festival in Jupiter is coming up soon on Saturday, September 29th.

Rocktoberfest is a free music festival with bands playing at the Abacoa amphitheatre and on street stages, with the addition of craft beer trucks, food tents, giant beer pong, artists and craft vendors, and even the Oktoberfest-inspired stein-holding contest. Bands playing include Spred The Dub, NIXX, Josh Miles + The Sweets, and Axcents.

Jupiter’s beloved local landmark, the Jupiter Lighthouse, was authorized by Congress to be built in 1853, and construction of the tower was completed in May of 1860, with the official lighting commenced on July 10th, 1860. From 1860 to 1939, more than 70 different keepers maintained this 108-foot lighthouse, until the civilian lighthouse service merged with the United States Coast Guard in 1939. Military personnel remained its keepers until it was automated in 1987. The Jupiter Lighthouse remains a treasured local landmark and an active Aid to Navigation, with 1 of only 13 active 1st Order Fresnel lenses in the entire United States!

Jonathan Dickinson State Park is a historic site located in Martin County between Hobe Sound and Tequesta, and is the largest state park in southeast Florida. The park includes the Elsa Kimbell Environmental Education and Research Center and a variety of natural habitats. The Loxahatchee River, which runs through the park, was the first river in Florida designated as a National Wild and Scenic River.

 

History:

The park is named after Jonathan Dickinson, a Quaker merchant who was shipwrecked in 1696, with his family and others, on the Florida coast near the present-day park. He wrote a journal describing their encounters with local tribes, and their journey up the coast to St. Augustine.

Last month, the Town of Jupiter Council passed a resolution that supports the voluntary elimination of single-use plastic straws and overall reduction of single-use plastics. The campaign is called "PURE" which stands for "Plastics Use Reduction Encouragement," which doesn't outlaw straws and single-use plastics but prompts the community to get involved in the effort to decrease plastic pollution.

The town of Jupiter is once again celebrating the return of fall and its seasonal residents at the fun-filled Jupiter Fall Fest.

The festival will be held at the lovely Harbourside Place on Saturday, October 6th from noon-5 p.m.

Guests can enjoy live music, food from Harbourside restaurants, trucks and other food vendors, a beer garden, crafts and kids carnival.

Admission is free and so is parking.
