The city of Palm Beach Gardens is suitably named, as it is comprised of 30 percent flourishing greenery. Located seven miles north of West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens is known for its excellent shopping, dining, and entertainment opportunities at the Gardens Mall, Downtown at the Gardens, and Legacy Place. Boating and fishing are plentiful, as are beautiful luxurious waterfront homes, some even sitting directly on the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, if not the Intracoastal Waterway.

OFFSHORE: The South Florida fishing action out deep has been a bit scattered far offshore. Closer in, is where you will find the best fishing action for the springtime. The sailfish bite seemed to slow down a bit due to the lack of current and greener waters. That could change any day as the current changes. The Cobia bite is really good in areas of the sand pile. Lots of fish around South Florida, especially near shallower wrecks in the 70’-90’ foot range. Live baits work outstanding such as crabs, pilchards, pinfish, mullet and shrimp.  On the deep side of the Juno Beach, Florida 180' ledge where is a mixed bag of fish and rudder fish and blue runners have tackled the area. The calendar has turned to April, meaning that spring is officially here.

For us golf fans, that can only mean one thing, The Masters is upon us. The azaleas have begun the bloom, the pimento cheese sandwiches are being made, and come Thursday we will get a "hello friends" from Jim Nantz.

The first major of the year is upon us and it truly is the most wonderful time of the year. As always, the storylines heading into this week are plentiful. None are bigger though than two golfers that call our area home, heading down Magnolia Lane going in vastly different directions.

Wildlife Officials say to Look out for shorebirds in South Florida

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) are asking all beachgoers to keep a look out and do your best not to disturb the shorebirds on the Atlantic coast of Florida.

During spring and summer, shorebirds are beach nesting; they tend to build nests with layers of sand and sea shells found on the beautiful resourceful beaches of South Florida. Due to their camouflage, hatching chicks, as well as the nest and eggs, are challenging to see with possibilities of being trodden on such as birds like the black skimmer, snowy plover and American oystercatcher and more. Another Florida Swing has come and gone, and as has been so many times in the past, those four weeks featured some of the most exciting golf of the 2015 season. In March of 1965, the PGA of America was at a crossroads. It was looking for a new place to house its offices but wasn't sure where to go.

John D. MacArthur, wanting to be under the PGA branch invited them to come look at his club. He offered to let them work out of his clubhouse at PGA National Golf Club (now the present day BallenIsles). The PGA of America complied and thus began the now 50 year history of the partnership between the PGA of America and the Palm Beach Gardens area.

The area back then, however, looked nothing like it does today. I-95 ended at PGA Boulevard, known back then as Monet road. Northlake Boulevard was a gravel road west of US 1. Today's PGA National did not exist, and other than MacArthur’s PGA National Golf Club…

Congratulations to local North Palm Beach resident, professional golfer and respected philanthropist, Jack Nicklaus!  He has been presented with the Congressional Gold Medal. Both houses of Congress honored Nicklaus with the medal March 25, 2015

The Congressional Gold Medal is presented “to persons who have performed an achievement that has an impact on American history and culture that is likely to be recognized as a major achievement in the recipient’s field long after the achievement.”   It one of the two highest awards granted to citizens of the United States.   Nicklaus received the other, Presidential Medal of Freedom, in 2005by President George W. Bush.
