Beginning in early November, Palm Beach County began hauling 200,000 cubic yards of beach sand for a beach renourishment project south of the Jupiter Inlet at Carlin Park.  Approximately 120 truckloads of sand will be delivered from a mine in Port St. Lucie daily.  The trucks will travel via I-95 to Indiantown Road to a staging area at Carlin Park, 400 A1A, Jupiter, during off peak hours to avoid impacts on traffic and morning rush hour.

Palm Beach County Tourist Development Tax and the State of Florida fund the $5.5 million renourishment beach project.  The sand will be placed along 3,500 feet of beach front and 200,000 dune plants will be planted.  Work on the beach project will take place between sunrise…

Far back inshore of the Intracoastal Waterway of Tequesta, Florida, a flats boat was anchored up in the north fork of the Loxahatchee river, right next to the Tequesta Bridge, where anglers were just casually fishing.

Normally, back in the Loxahatchee River, fishermen are more likely to hook up on a Jack crevalle, a lady fish or even a snook, where the saltwater is brackish, shallow and murky. On the other hand, sometimes the waters may have you guessing on what you’re reeling in.

A couple weeks ago, Captain Joe Kelly, informed me that his friend’s son was casually fishing along the north fork of the river, when he reeled in a fish he couldn’t even imagine to catch inshore. The kid saw a blaze of bright colors of mixed blues, deep green and yellow. Can…

Largemouth bass are so superior because no matter where you live in South Florida, on any autumn day, there is a pond or lake close by for a chance to catch them. Some of the best known bass waters in Florida is Lake Okeechobee and the Kissimmee chain seem to be among the state’s largest, however, even all freshwater lakes, rivers and streams in South Florida are filled with these largemouth bass. From residential development ponds, swimming ponds, and golf course ponds, the list goes on of how many different regions are jam-packed with these large mouths.

Florida has a reputation for generating some of the top leading and biggest bass in the United States. The good part about bass fishing in the fall is their breeding time is over and the only thing on…

Florida’s pioneers of surfing actually date back to the 1930’s with a few Virginia Beach lifeguards who rented concession stands at the beach and demonstrated the sport of surfing using Hawaiian surfboards.  A couple of native Florida guys were belly boarding in Miami Beach and a couple others scattered across the Southern part of the state.  After WWII, active military bases, with service members familiar with using boards for military purposes, settled down and became surfers.

In the early sixties, when surfing began to become very popular in South Florida “Delray was the epicenter of surfing in Palm Beach County, maybe even the entire east coast of Florida” according to Palm Beach County Surf History…

11.14.14 Fishing Report

OFFSHORE-

As the dolphin has continued to stay strong all year round, the last couple of days have been no different as the bite is still on fire! Some dolphin reports coming out of Palm Beach have said that they are in the range of 150’-300’ of water and in good numbers. Mainly small dolphin in the 5-10lb range but there are a few bulls in the mix. Trolling with ballyhoo or just drifting live baits will get their attention. Sailfish are coming in and making things a bit more interesting and boats have spotted these sails every day, multiple times per day. At the 120’ ledge in Juno  Beach, the cobias are swimming around in fair numbers. Snapper fishing is also very good when using the top baits such as sardines to hook up good size…

The official start of the right whale calving season starts this Saturday, November 15. From the beginning of November, right whales have been migrating south to the Florida coast to give birth to their young, where the water temperature is warmer. During the time from November to April, the right whales will migrate between the feeding areas from New England and Canada and their calving area off the Florida coast.

A festival is taken place this weekend in Jacksonville, Florida to rejoice the yearly return of the endangered North Atlantic right whales and to celebrate the beginning of their reproducing season. Since there are only about 500 right whales that still exist today, Right Whale Festival is a fun, outdoor event for all ages to expand awareness of…

Veterans Day is a day Americans honor those who have served their country in the armed forces.   It is always celebrated on November 11 and it is not a day to be confused with Memorial Day.  Memorial Day is a day set aside for those who have died in service to their country.

Veterans Day is for all who served in the armed forces.  On the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, in 1918, an armistice (agreement) was reached between Allied Nations and Germany.  World War I officially ended. On November 11, 1919, Armistice Day was commemorated for the first time with parades, speeches and brief suspension of business activities at 11:00 am.

On Veterans Day today, and all year, in South Florida honors its veterans. Veterans and active duty…
