The Loggerhead Marinelife Center is preparing this week to release another healthy sea turtle back into the ocean.

Willis, is a large juvenile loggerhead sea turtle that was found in the canal at the Florida Power and Light’s St. Lucie site in Jensen Beach. The sea turtle was found with saltwater leeches and barnacles on its shell and was slightly underweight and its bloodwork showed signs of poor health.

This Wednesday, Willis will be released back into the Atlantic Ocean at 10:30 am. Pre-release procedures will begin at 10 am. The Loggerhead Marinelife Center staff will go over the turtles injures and recovery since Willis first entered the center back in June.

The sea turtle releases are weather permitting and get crowded, so you are asked to arrive early to get a good viewing spot. If you can’t make it to see in person, the Marinelife Center staff will be live streaming the event from their Facebook page.
