Under Phase 1 South Florida restaurants can reopen under social distancing guidelines. Mizner Park within the City of Boca Raton will provisionally allow expansion of al fresco style outdoor seating to allow more patrons to dine in while still exercising social distancing. According to the latest numbers from the Florida Department of Health, there are 39,199 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, including 1,669 deaths.

According to Governor DeSantis the first phase which includes restaurants and retail stores to operate at 2 percent capacity and restaurants with outdoor dining must keep six feet of distance between tables.  If you have been to the beach lately, you've probably seen the incredible amount of seaweed washed up on our coastline. South Florida is currently experiencing substantial amounts of seaweed beaching up on the coastline. Due to this influx of seaweed, Palm Beach County has taken the initiative to protect turtle season and keep locals happy.

On the north end of the county, researchers at Loggerhead Marinelife Center, Juno Beach, are keeping an eye on it, making sure it doesn’t negatively impact nesting sea turtles and their hatchlings.  The husband-and-wife team behind the popular Yakitori Sake House in Boca Raton have opened a much bigger restaurant just a few miles away. Tina Wang and Jason Zheng held the grand opening for Saiko-i Sushi Lounge & Hibachi in late 2018.

Saiko-I is located in The Shoppes at Village Pointe  and comes with very reputable history.  The corner location was home to the very popular Gatsby’s Bar for more than 20 years. Now Jason and Tina are making their own history at Saiko-i.  This over 7,000 square foot space has 11 Hibachi tables, a sushi lounge, seafood bar, indoor/outdoor bar and quaint patio! Florida Atlantic University’s rock climbing center has opened an outdoor climbing center.  It is located at the north end of the campus in Boca Raton, 777 Glades Road.  It is open to the public Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons. 

Rock climbing is an activity in which partakers climb up, down or across natural rock formations or artificial rock walls. The goal is to reach the summit of a natural or artificial formation. The idea is to reach this point of an outlined predetermine route without falling.

Boca Raton’s beloved art celebration, Festival of the Arts Boca, is right around the corner and its kickoff party is happening this Thursday. The Festival of the Arts Boca offers its guests and fellow art enthusiasts 11 days of film screenings, jazz, symphonic concerts, lectures and readings. 

The Thursday night kickoff will feature a renowned writer, Jennifer Egan. Egan specializes in both fiction and non-fiction literary works.
