This Sunday evening right after sunset, go outside and look up to see a rare ‘Triple Conjunction’ of three planets forming what will look like a triangle in the sky.

Sunday, January 10th moon will be a waning crescent Moon and it will pass by the brightest star, Arcturus, in the constellation of Scorpius. This will occur about an hour before sunrise this Sunday morning. Simply look southeast to see it.

Later in the day, about 45 minutes before sunset, Jupiter, Saturn, and Mercury will be in a rare Triple Conjunction.  You will likely need binoculars to see it but its possible to see it without. The three planets will be 1.6 degrees apart and will appear to form a triangle in the sky.

This holiday season, a rare ‘Christmas Star’ will light up the sky this month for the first time in 800 years. The rare shiny sighting will be visible from South Florida without a telescope and will kick off the winter solstice.

The timing lines up perfectly with the winter solstice meaning that December 21st is also the official start of the winter season. Luckily for us winter in South Florida consists of lots of sunshine and temperatures in the mid-70s to low-80s.

The last rare’ Christmas Star’ sighting happened in 1226, according to astronomers. As Jupiter and Saturn make their way around the sun the two planets will slowly grow closer together for the new few days until they are completely aligned according to NASA.  Planet alignments are rare,…

Calling all space fans, get excited because Mars is going to be close to Earth. Today, Tuesday, October 6th, Mars will come the closest to Earth and it will not happen again until 2035 according to NASA.

Known as the Mars Close Approach, the event happens every two years and follows Earth and Mars. Normally the distance between the two is 38.6 million miles. Today, the closest distance will be 33.9 million miles away from Earth. When Mars, Earth, and the sun become aligned, Mars will be visible for much of the night in the southern sky and will be at its highest point around midnight according to NASA.
