This weekend is Memorial Day Weekend, known to many as the unofficial start of the summer season. Memorial Day is more than that. This Monday, May 31st, Americans around the world remember and honor all of those who died while serving in the US Military.

Memorial Day is celebrated on the last Monday of May every year. The day was originally known as Decoration Day and originated in the years following the Civil War in the mid-1860’s. It was not until 1971 after the Uniform Monday Holiday Act took effect and moved the holiday to the last Monday in May, when Memorial Day became a Federal holiday.

The sea turtle research and rehabilitation center have a list of events for the public to enjoy this weekend. Head to the Loggerhead Marinelife Center this Friday through Sunday for a day of fun and get a change to visit with the sea turtles.

Friday, February Events at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center

Public Guided Tours: 12 pm and 2 pm

The Public Guided Tours are offered a few times a day and attendees get an up-close look at the outdoor sea turtle hospital and get to see the sea turtles housed at the center. The cost is $10 dollars for adults and $5 dollars for children under 8 years old. All are welcomed to attend. The tour lasts approximately an hour and registration is required prior to the tour to reserve your space.

The 12th Annual Grand Tasting at the Palm Beach Food and Wine Festival is happening this Sunday at from 2pm to 6pm at the Palm Beach Convention Center. There’s a lot going on in South Florida this weekend, here a few fun things for those of you who live in the Palm Beaches.

Gardens Of Lights

Thousands of lights illuminating foliage around the garden. The Gardens Of Lights presentation was installed by the same company that produces Admirals Cove, and Las Olas's displays. 

This is the first time the garden history it has been open at night.  Since the garden in the flight path of Palm Beach International Airport organizers had to work with them and PBSO to make sure the lights weren't distracting to pilots.
