Tax Free Shopping – Palm Beach County
For two weeks, Floridians across the state will be able to save money by taking advantage of this tax free shopping holiday on the purchase of select items for the new 2022 school year. Palm Beach County shoppers will have the opportunity to take advantage of savings on eligible purchases of apparel, school supplies, and electronic devices like laptops, desktops, and tablets. The Florida Back to School sales tax holiday is July 25 to August 7, 2022, when there will be no state sales tax on qualifying items. Students and non-students are welcome to purchase tax-exempt items.
In Florida, state sales taxes are 6 percent or $6 for every $100 spent. Individual qualifying items must be within designated price limits.There is no limit on eligible tax-exempt purchases if they are within the price limits. If the price of an item is higher than the limit, the tax exemption does not apply.
The Florida Department of Revenue has released a fact sheet detailing the items that are tax-free from July 25th-August 7th, 2022. Some tax-free items include:
Clothing, footwear, and accessories on sale for $100 or less per item
School supplies on sale for $50 or less per item
jigsaw puzzles and learning aids such as flashcards on sale for $30 or less
Personal computers and related accessories purchased for noncommercial home or personal use on sale for $1,500 or less
The tax-free holiday in Florida estimates that families across the country are expected to spend an average of $864 on back-to-school shopping this year.
