The Florida Keys is now open to visitors starting today, June 1st.  The chain of Florida islands closed more than two months ago to minimize the spread of coronavirus and is now reopen for vacationers and visitors.

Monroe County Emergency Management had previously announced that checkpoints stopped visitors from entering the Florida Keys. During the closure, more than 18,750 cars were turned away because drivers did not provide the proper paperwork that showed they lived or worked in the Florida Keys. The announcement last month stated that hotels and other lodging establishments will be allowed to reopen at 50% capacity beginning today as well.

Businesses in the Florida Keys must implement sanitation stations and follow the American Hotel and Lodging Association’s cleaning guidelines for COVID-19.  The Florida Keys have been closed to visitors since March 22nd.
