Because Coronavirus can be spread easily, countless Palm Beach County residents have resorted to wearing face masks to protect themselves.  The virus is transmissible through human contact and exposure to respiratory droplets from an infected person.  When an infected person coughs or sneezes, they force out respiratory droplets into the air. They can also spread those droplets around if they touch their eyes and nose then touch another person or surface. Meet these infectious drops and you could get sick.

The 35th annual Palm Beach International Boat Show, but not in the way Palm Beach residents are used to.

Because of the coronavirus, the actual show scheduled this past March was canceled by the show owner, the Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County, Inc. and the producers, Informa Markets, for the safety and wellbeing of staff, exhibitors, partners, attendees and members.

Hundreds of artists and art instructors have been teaching art classes for kids for the past few weeks.  The art classes are aimed for kids and range in different topics, scenery and age groups.  The types of classes include simple craft projects, beginner drawing classes, watercolor painting, intermediate crafts, portraiture and more.  Some classes offer downloadable print outs and class sheets for coloring and painting.

Today - Monday, May 11 - Palm Beach County has begun easing business restrictions and allowing responsible individual activity. 

Keep in mind that the state of Florida continues to encourage senior citizens and people with underlying medical issues to stay home.

Starting Monday, May 11, restaurants can reopen sit-in dining, but with restrictions, such as indoor seating limited to 25% capacity and outdoor seating with six feet of space between tables.

Prior to Friday's announcement, only the kitchen portions of restaurants could remain open for take-out, delivery or drive-thru. Dining rooms were ordered closed.

Gov. Ron DeSantis agreed to allow Palm Beach County restaurants and retailers to reopen in a limited capacity starting this Monday, the 11th. The move puts the Palm Beaches on the “phase 1” track along with most of the other counties. Miami-Dade and Broward counties will remain closed.

“I think Palm Beach is incredibly important for our state,” DeSantis said earlier today. “It’s not like flipping a switch ... but we’ll be able to get people back to work.”

The governor’s decision to let the Palm Beach County split from Broward and Miami-Dade counties came a day after county commissioners formally asked him to lift restrictions that are shackling the local economy.

Palm Beach County Mayor Dave Kerner sent a letter to the governor Thursday asking for permission to begin reopening non-essential businesses.

“We are recommending you consider and grant our county the opportunity to reopen in Phase 1 of your plan in a similar fashion to other counties of the state outside of South Florida,” Kerner wrote, noting that the county’s commissioners have deemed them ready. “We would like to engage in discussions with you regarding the acceleration of this at the earliest possible date.”

As of Thursday, Palm Beach has reported 3,587 cases of COVID-19, with 222 deaths and 577 hospitalizations.

The popular Palm Beach Gardens mall is hoping to receive the okay from the Governor to begin their own reopening process.  If the State of Florida continues to reopen like it has been doing, The Gardens Mall is planning on reopening their doors by Monday, May 18th. 

The Gardens Mall closed it doors due to Covid-19 at closing time on Wednesday, March 18th.  Recently the mall sent out survey’s to mall customers on tips and feedback on how they should reopen and what shoppers should expect to see when the mall opens back up.

The Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners are holding a special meeting Friday morning. Commissioners will discuss a plan to reopen beaches in Palm Beach County.

They will also consider how to spend $261 million dollars awarded to the county by the federal government as part of the $2 trillion relief package.

"We have many miles of beaches on our eastern coast. It stands all the way from the Broward County line all the way up to Highland Beach," Boca Raton City Councilman Andy Thomson said.

On March 20, Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered all beaches in Palm Beach County to close.

Thomson thinks Boca Raton has to be careful in its approach to allowing people back on beaches.
