Sharks are impressive creatures that have fascinated people for ages, though they're often misunderstood due to Hollywood films like Jaws. Did you know sharks have been around for 400 million years and there are actually 450 different species of sharks? You can learn all about them and watch the predators chomp in action at the Sandoway Discovery Center public feedings.

Florida recreational divers have a little over three weeks left to cash in on rewards ranging from $500 to $5,000 for harvesting FWC-tagged lionfish.

The statewide Lionfish Challenge began on Lionfish Removal and Awareness Day (May 19, 2018) and runs through Labor Day (Sept. 3, 2018). FWC tagged lionfish with external dart tags at 50 randomly-selected non-disclosed artificial reef sites between the depths of 80’ and 120’.

To participate, you must complete a registration form, and find and harvest an FWC-tagged lionfish, then submit a clear photo of the lionfish and tag including documentation of the harvester name, tag ID#, GPS coordinates of harvest location and date harvested to Lionfish@MyFWC.com.

The Palm Beach Zoo and Conservation Society is a non-profit organization and one of Florida’s top-rated zoological organizations. The zoo is located in Dreher Park in West Palm Beach and has over 550 animals and over 190 different species. Many of the animals housed at the zoo are endangered and roam within the 23 acres of tropical habit.

The zoo would not be what it is today without the help and determination of Paul Dreher who moved to South Florida from Germany. Dreher moved to the area and got a job working for the City of West Palm Beach and he later went on to purchase the land which is now Dreher Park from the city in the 1950s. Dreher opened the zoo in the 1960s.
