Cuban immigration has greatly influenced South Florida.  Present day Miami, and a lot southeast Florida reflects a rich multicultural hub of various traditions, foods and culture. 

The first wave of immigrants occurred after the Cuban Revolution of 1959 led by Fidel Castro. Many political refugees came with the idea that the new government would not last long, and their stay in the U.S. was temporary. Homes, cars, and other properties in Cuba were left behind until the government fell.
