Cruise ships are a key point of Southeast Florida tourism and hospitality, however the pandemic has rocked the boat. With ports in Palm Beach down to Miami, the local cruise industry has been impacted in a big way. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Friday announced that it will allow its “no-sail order” to expire this weekend. The change is a big win for the Florida cruise industry, which has been shuttered completely since March.  

Cruise stocks rose Friday after the CDC announced it will replace its nearly 8-month old no-sail order with a less restrictive “Conditional Sailing Order.” The no-sail order has been in place since mid-March due to the coronavirus, but will expire on Saturday night and not be extended, the CDC said.…

Its that time of year again for the 2020 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show. The popular boat show is in its 61st year and despite heat waves, hurricanes, and other natural causes throughout the years the annual boat show has never been cancelled.

While the number of exhibits has been slightly reduced, the show will still be the largest in-water boat show with over 1,000 exhibitors and over 1,300 boats on display to look at and tour. The boats on display range from pontoons, cruisers, fishing boats to superyachts and more. In addition to the boats, the show will feature marine products and accessories, exotic cars, brokerage yachts, and more.

Get outside and get some exercise.  Bike, run or walk the Lake Trail in Palm Beach. The Lake Trail travels from the south end of the Australian Docks at the Royal Palm Bridge at Southern Blvd and travels north, past the Flagler Memorial Bridge for several miles. It is a great walk, jog, or cycling trail.

Local favorite tropical paradise, Peanut Island, has reopened as of 10/01/2020, and locals are fueling up their boats and ready for a weekend in the sun off Singer Island.

Peanut Island is one of the many treasures of the Palm Beach County outdoors. This small island near the mouth of Palm Beach Inlet is known as a Florida wonderland of boats at the sandbar, snorkeling, camping, and kayaking. 

Shuttles will be running to and from Peanut Island from 10am until 5pm, and the last boat to the island leaves Riviera Beach City Marina at 3:30pm.

Sailfish Marina has announced that they are re-opening the Palm Beach Water Taxi this Friday, October 2nd, with a few new guidelines.

The water taxi will be running Thursday through Sunday with departure times at 10am, 12pm, 2pm, and 4pm.

The water taxi will not be making any pickups or drop-offs at Peanut Island, so they will only be giving narrated tours until further notice. The maximum capacity on both water taxis will be at the discretion of the captain to provide for social distancing, and masks will be mandatory at check-in, but not for the duration of the tour. Mates will sanitize all surfaces between tours, hand sanitizer will be made available, and there will be no temperature check before boarding.

ChaseN’Tailz is a tax exempt nonprofit in Jupiter, Florida dedicated to changing the lives of needy families with children battling life threatening illnesses. Directed by Summer Warren, they change lives by relieving financial stress to provide families more time to create forever memories with their children and connect them with other families and resources. 

This weekend, boats will be out fishing for the 7th Annual ChaseN’Tailz Fishing Tournament to fundraise for the worthy cause. Fishing teams will compete out of Jupiter Inlet to find the largest kingfish, dolphin, wahoo, bonita, or snapper.

While the beach has historically been a good place for casual wear, the 1910 motorboat races in Palm Beach provided a place to see and be seen, as you can see in this image of the spectators by Bain News Service.

The Palm Beach Motor Boat Regatta was held annually by the Palm Beach Power Boat Association. Palm Beach society and high society from northern states would  set up chairs and umbrellas on Palm Beach to watch "speedy" motor boats race at a speed around 20 miles per hour.
