The 8th Annual Lionfish Roundup will be held next Saturday, June 2nd. 

The roundup begins on Friday, June 1st, with a divers meeting and kick-off party at 6 p.m. at the Jupiter Pointe Marina in Tequesta. The spearfishing competition for the Lionfish is on Saturday with a tally and awards party at 2 p.m. Divers spearing the most Lionfish, the smallest, and the largest will be awarded up to $5,000. It's a fun way to do some fishing and to protect our natural reef habitat. 

Lionfish are an invasive species in South Florida that destroy our coral reefs, consume native reef fish, and breed at an uncontrollable rate. The roundup was started eight years ago when the species started dominating the coastline.

Jonathan Dickinson State Park is a Florida State Park in Martin County settled between Tequesta and Hobe Sound. Located just five miles north of Jupiter, the park features a variety of natural habitats, mangroves, river swamps, and wildlife among its 16 natural communities. The Loxahatchee River, Florida’s first federally designated scenic and wild river, runs through the middle of the park.

The park got its name after a Quaker merchant named Jonathan Dickinson who was shipwrecked off the coast in 1696. The Town of Jupiter and the Jupiter Police Department are hosting their annual Coastal Fest on the Riverwalk at Harbourside Place this upcoming weekend. The family friendly coastal themed event is taking place Saturday, April 28th from noon to 5 pm in Jupiter.

The event is free to the public and will feature a kid’s carnival area and activities, bounce houses, face painting, local artisan vendors, a tiki bar featuring beer and wine, touch tank, and local food trucks and vendors. The participating food vendors include the Food Shack, Modern Juice Company, Guanabanas Island Restaurant, Tropical Sno, PS 561 Food Truck, and more.

Livability.com is a website that showcases some of the best cities to visit and live throughout the country. The website ranked more than 2,000 cities across the United States and both Boca Raton and Jupiter were ranked in the Top 10. The Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach is hosting their 15th Annual TurtleFest 2018 this upcoming Saturday, March 24th. More than 10,000 visitors are expected to attend the free ocean conservation festival from 10 am to 6 pm.

The festival will include food, specialty drinks and craft beers, live music, yoga, a beach cleanup, educational and fun activities, shopping, sea turtles and much more. At the festival you’ll have a change to visit the sick or injured sea turtles located in the Loggerhead Marinelife Center.

TurtleFest is Palm Beach County’s largest ocean conservation festival and the festival will be in Loggerhead Park located along the Atlantic Ocean. TurtleFest is free to attend and guest of all ages are welcomed.

Tomorrow night Wellington is hosting their first annual Family Fun Night and lakeside boat parade. The event will start at 4:30 pm and runs until 7:30 pm as part of the Village of Lake Wellington Event Series.

The theme for family fun night is Mardi Gras, and the boats will be decorated with décor and lights for the parade to fit this month’s theme. The boats will gather on the west side of Lake Wellington near the Meadowland Cove boat launch before beginning the parade at the end of the night. All boaters are encouraged to participate in the boat parade.
