John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park was the first underwater park in the United States and the primary attractions of the park are the coral reefs and their associated marine life such as seagrass beds and mangrove swamps. It is a Florida State Park located on Key Largo in Florida and includes approximately 70 nautical square miles of adjacent Atlantic Ocean waters. Years ago, the State of Florida created a short sportsman season to allow recreational divers to catch lobsters before the commercial lobster season begins. Lobster mini season is a highly anticipated event every year. When the official mini season kicks off, the coastal areas of Florida are flooded with lobster hunters trying to get their share of the bounty. Atlantic Tarpons are considered one of the great saltwater game fishes.  Because of their size and because of their fighting spirit when hooked they are a prized fish. They are very strong, making mighty leaps into the air into the air to spit out the hook. In Florida and Alabama, a special permit is required to catch and keep a tarpon, so most tarpon fishing there is catch and release. Tarpon flesh is not desirable and extremely boney.

Palm Beach County's award-winning park system offers the widest possible range of leisure opportunities and with over 8,000 acres of accessible parkland to discover. Watersports sports, fitness, ecological, and cultural opportunities abound, as well as restful places for peace and quiet.

One of the newest parks is Waterway Park in Jupiter. The $7 million park opened just three months ago.  April 2017 the new park unlocked a new Intracoastal entry point for the community. Located on the west side of the waterway at the base of the Indiantown Road bridge.

Waterway Park offers a boat ramp, 52 boat trailer parking spaces and 29 vehicle spaces.  Additionally, there is a tortoise preserve area, a boardwalk, a fishing pier and a restroom building.
