Today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day January 18, 2021. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Baptist minister and social rights activist in the United States in the 1950s and ’60s. He was a leader of the American civil rights movement. He organized several peaceful protests as leader of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, including the March on Washington in 1963. Dr. King led the civil rights movement in the United States from the mid-1950s until his death by assassination in 1968.

This weekend will mark the 30th anniversary of Operation Desert Storm, the United States led attack on Bagdad and Iraqi forces.  In January 1991, members from all five military branches joined a coalition to push out Saddam Hussein’s forces from Kuwait for Operation Desert Storm.  It meant the U.S. was at war for the first time since Vietnam.

The Richard and Pat Johnson Palm Beach County History Museum is located at 300 North Dixie Highway West Palm Beach. The historical museum is within the walls of the historic 1916 Courthouse in downtown West Palm Beach.  Learn about the rich and diverse history of Palm Beach County which has been preserved by the Historical Society of Palm Beach County. 

The Historical Society was formed in 1937, West Palm Beach lawyer A. Stanley Bussey donated a vintage black-and-white photograph of an island street scene to the newly established Society. The first day of the Stuart Boat Show was well received and with hopes for a better weekend turnout. Day 2 of the largest boat show on Treasure Coast will open for the second day this weekend, Saturday January 16 at 10:00 a.m. The annual boat show has been named as one of the “Top 20 Events” in the Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society last year.

The Stuart Boat Show features more than 175 local, national, and international exhibitors exhibiting hundreds of boats in the water and on land, as well as marine and boating accessories. This year marks the 132nd anniversary of the oldest existing congregation in Palm Beach. The church building is an example of the gothic revival style and surrounds a courtyard. In the late 1880’s the need for a church in ever expanding South Florida area was increasing.  Reverend Joseph N. Mulford, a pastor at Christ Church in New York, volunteered to start a mission in South Florida. In 1889, they congregated on the shores of Lake Worth to establish an Episcopal mission.

The 2021 Honda Classic will take place at PGA National Resort & Spa on mArch 15-21. As of now, the tournament will host patrons but with a reenvisoned planned from what we are use to seeing at PGA National. 

Attendance will indeed be limited in 2021, but tournament officials are building a unique and first-class fan experience, provided in a safe and responsible setting while making make a significant charitable impact in South Florida.

Did you know that there are only two marked graves in Palm Beach?  Hidden among the dense green ferns of the Pizza Al Fresco courtyard off Worth Avenue, you will find the only cemetery in Palm Beach proper. Side-by-side in a lushly landscaped courtyard, down a Via, just off Worth Avenue you will find to old headstone markers. Neither belongs to a human being.

The more famous of the little-known pair is Johnnie Brown, the “Human Monkey”. Johnnie Brown was the pet spider monkey of Addison Mizner.
