The West Palm Beach TV market had the highest numbers for any market in the United States for the 2015 Open Championship.

Despite the Open Championship being aired on cable on ESPN, the 39th TV market in the country posted a 2.9 rating, two tenths of a point higher than the second rated market, Louisville, KY (2.7).

Nationally, ESPN had a 1.4 overall U.S. rating, which was up 24% from 2014 when Palm Beach Gardens resident Rory Mcllroy won by two shots over Rickie Fowler and Sergio Garcia.

Even the weather delays the plagued the majority of the tournament didn’t stop golf fans from tuning in to see if Jordan Spieth was going to get one step closer to the single season grand slam. Saturday’s 1.2 national rating was up 33% from 2014 and Sunday’s third…

Arnold Palmer never won an Open Championship at St. Andrews. He did win two Open Championships in his career, but never lifted a trophy at "The Home of Golf". That changed at least in a ceremonial sense yesterday when Palmer and his team won the Champion Golfers' Challenge on the eve of the 2015 edition of the Open at St. Andrews.

The event, a four-hole exhibition that pits former Open champions against each other in four-person teams, actually finished in a four-way tie at the top at 3-under but were awarded the victory because it had the highest average age. Palmer was joined on his team by Darren Clarke, Paul Lawrie and Bill Rogers.

Palmer did not participate in the event, as he is still recovering from his shoulder surgery. He did, however, hit…

Around 6am ET on Monday morning, Rory Mcllroy posted a picture to his Instagram in a walking boot and on crutches. The post had a caption that said “Total rupture of left ATFL (ankle ligament) and associated joint capsule damage in a soccer kickabout with friends on Saturday. Continuing to assess extent of injury and treatment plan day by day. Rehab already started..... Working hard to get back as soon as I can.”

Rehab time can range anywhere from 10 days to 6 weeks depending on the severity of the sprain. That puts not just the next few weeks, but the remainder of the 2015 season in doubt for the Palm Beach Gardens resident.

Mcllroy was scheduled to play the Scottish Open this week and his name has already been removed from the published field…

Golf.com and Sports Illustrated ranked all 50 states by their “Golfiness” and the state of Florida was given the top spot on the list. The list, compiled by Golf.com’s travel expert Joe Passov, was done by rating each state on a 0-50 scale in four categories: avidness of golfers, quantity and quality of courses, legacy/vibe, and Joe’s own rating.

Joe’s had this to say in his description of Florida:

“‘My parents didn't want to move to Florida, but they turned 60 and that's the law,’ joked Jerry Seinfeld. There are many reasons why so many PGA Tour pros from Europe and the U.S. make Florida their home: No state income tax, more courses (1,042) than any other state, terrific facilities and superb weather nearly year-round. The state also hosts a…

Royal Palm Beach resident Alan Morin carded a four day total of even par to finish in a tie for third at the 2015 PGA Professional National Championship at the Philadelphia Cricket Club. That third place finish earned the assistant pro at The Falls Country Club in Lake Worth a spot at the PGA Championship at Whistling Straights August 13th-16th.

Morin shot rounds of 70, 72, 72, and 68 to be one of the 20 PGA Professionals to earn a trip to the season’s final major.

“I’m very happy for how I played today,” Morin told the Palm Beach Post. “I grinded it out, and mentally hung in there all week. I tried to stay steady and not get ahead of myself. It’s a marathon. But it was a beautiful facility, a beautiful golf course. You can’t get better conditions…

Quail Ridge Country Club in Boynton Beach will demolish their current clubhouse to make way for a new $22 million clubhouse. According to the club's General Manager William Langley, the 40 year old clubhouse will be torn down in the next few weeks and the new one is expected to be completed in October of 2017.

Quail Ridge, which boasts two 18-hole championship courses, had it's original clubhouse built in 1975. It had been previously renovated in 1990 and again in 2001.

Langley said the current clubhouse is “traditional,” while the replacement will have more height, higher ceilings and views that overlook the putting green and practice range. It will have outdoor and indoor seating as well as an outdoor bar and nanowalls that allow the windows to…

The West Course at the Fountains Country Club will be closed until mid-October as the club undergoes a $2 million renovation project.

The club is trying to get the course back to its original design by widening bunkers, restructuring fairways, and leveling parts of the course. According to General Manager Ricardo Catarino, by reshaping the bunkers and fairways, the greens will regain some of the visual appeal that it had when it originally opened in the 1970s.

The plan is not only to return the greens to their original size and shape, but also re-build the tee boxes to make the course more playable for less experienced golfers.

In addition, the club will also be fixing the clubhouse roof, expanding the outdoor eating areas, and revamping the…
