Jupiter and Juno Beach locals take the well being of our local sea turtles very seriously. Form protecting their environment, preserving our beaches and oceans to celebrating turtles in festival form. This month is the Annual Turtle Fest at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach. 

TurtleFest is a fun and educative way to support the Loggerhead Marinelife Center and the future of sea turtles. Throughout the year, Juno Beach's "Friends of the Arts" sponsor shows to display at the Juno Beach Town Center, featuring work from local artists.

The newest gallery, "Beauty on the Rocks," showcases the incredible paintings of Tina Nolan Caruso, a Jupiter local. 

Caruso is known for painting natural Florida landscapes, seascapes, and wildlife. "Beauty on the Rocks" is a collection of seascape paintings from area beaches erecting Anastasia Limestone, like Blowing Rocks Preserve in Hobe Sound, and the House of Refuge in Stuart. 

Her paintings will be on display through mid-April on weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Sea Turtle Nesting Season begins this week, and the experts at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach are hoping to have another record-breaking season.

The nesting season last 8 months, starting this Thursday, March 1st until October 31st. Last year was the best year to date since the Loggerhead Marinelife Center began several years ago, and the center is hoping for an even better year this season. 

Along the sandy coastline in north Palm Beach County, thousands of sea turtles lie eggs in the sand. The nests usually contain about 100 eggs each that requires 45 to 60 days before they start hatching. Making this area one of the most populated sea turtle nesting locations in the world.

In October 2017, Americans purchased homes at the fastest pace in a decade- a 6.2% monthly increase nationally, and a 16% monthly increase in Palm Beach County, according to the Florida Realtors Association.

Why are people buying?

One contributing factor could be the result of the national interest rate on 30-year fixed mortgages continuing to drop. Last week mortgage rates dropped from 3.95% to 3.92% in comparison to 4.03% in 2016 (National Association of Realtors). Historically, lower mortgage rates have helped drive home sales and those looking to refinance the market.
