Jupiter Artificial Reef Program Receives Donation from Kenny Chesney Foundation

Local area foundation, the Andrew Harris Foundation received a significant donation from the No Shoes Reefs Project. Jupiter resident, Andrew “Red” Harris, was a talented young man. He was struck while snorkeling June 8, 2014. This partnership between Building Conservation Trust, Coastal Conservation Associations’ National Habitat Program, and Country Superstar Kenny Chesney and ENGEL Coolers will be known as the Andrew “Red” Harris No Shoes Reef project of 2016.
The foundation will donate 15 of the "lagoon coral head" modules to Palm Beach County for placement on the popular Phil Foster Park Snorkeling Trail. There will be numbered plaques, which will help “snorkelers navigate the trail, avoid the channel and improve safety.” This reef…

Loggerhead Marinelife Center will come to life in the Grand Court at The Gardens Mall. Turtle lovers will enjoy an interactive afternoon focusing on their favorite reptile at the fifth annual Loggerhead Marinelife Day on Saturday, August 20 from 11:00am to 4:00pm. There will be presentations on turtles and marine life that are both fun and educational. The exhibition will feature different interactive stations based on research, rehabilitation, education and conservation themes. There will be a special appearance by Loggerhead Marinelife Center's mascot, Fletch. The event is open to the public at no charge. Mark your calendar! The 2nd Hang 20 Surf Dog Classic is set for August 27, 2016 at Carlin Park in Jupiter. Furry Friends, a no-kill shelter and clinic in Jupiter, will be hosting this family event that features live music, kids’ activities, food, vendors and dogs catching waves. The surfing begins at 8:30 a.m., with four heats; small, medium and large dogs, and a stand-up surfboard heat. You can register your pooch online at FurryFriendsAdoption.org. Space is limited.

Years ago, the State of Florida created a short sportsman season to allow recreational divers to catch lobsters before the commercial lobster season begins. Lobster mini season is a highly anticipated event every year. When the official mini season kicks off, the coastal areas of Florida are flooded with lobster hunters trying to get their share of the bounty. The mini season is always the last consecutive Wednesday and Thursday in July. This year the mini season falls on July 27th and 28th. It begins at 12:01 am on Wednesday and ends at 12:00 midnight on Thursday. The regular 8 month lobster season is August 6 through March 31.
