In early 2020, the Martin County Golf Course began renovations to the course and a name change. The new course is now called “Sailfish Sands” and the new course is going to be bolder, innovative, and more unique, nothing like any other course in Martin County.

Earlier this week, the Martin County Parks and Recreation Director announced that he went before the County Commission to update them on the progress of the massive project and to ask for additional funding. The director and course asked for $3 million dollars more which will bring the complete renovation cost to around $8 million dollars and the county approved the changes during the meeting. Get outside and get some exercise.  Bike, run or walk the Lake Trail in Palm Beach. The Lake Trail travels from the south end of the Australian Docks at the Royal Palm Bridge at Southern Blvd and travels north, past the Flagler Memorial Bridge for several miles. It is a great walk, jog, or cycling trail.

The Lake Trail features a few spots for fishing as well as just sitting under a tree and reading a book. Admire the boats at the Australian Dock, they are from all over the world. The Lake Trail then crosses the bridge and travels behind the Society of The Four Arts. The Society of the Four Arts is a non-profit charity organization that was founded in 1936. In a move that is largely considered unprecedented, the owners of the Boca Country Club have announced their plans to donate the exclusive country club to the city. 

The club, which features an 18-hole Joe Lee designed championship golf course, tennis courts, a clubhouse, and a pool will now become a public club, with the goal of it going 100% public within the next year. 

The club is currently owned by MSD Partners and Northview Hotel Group who purchased the property in June of 2019 along with the Boca Raton Resort and Club. They are donating Boca Country Club to the city in order to focus more on the Boca Resort and Club and also to help give back to the city and its residents.

Registration is now open for the annual Treasure Coast Halloween Half Marathon this October 25th. The fun and spooky Halloween Half Marathon is open to both walkers and runners and participant will have a choice of three events to choose from.

The events will include the traditional Half Marathon, a 3-Person Team Relay (back by popular demand), or a Virtual Event. The competitive race will begin at 6:30 am on Sunday, October 25th and will start at the Stuart Memorial Park. The event is 13.1 miles long and is a timed chipped marathon. T-shirts and finisher medals will be presented and giving to all participants in the event. The Halloween Half Marathon will also feature a costume contest for participants.

Already one of the premier events on the PGA Tour Champions, this year's TimberTech Championship might have one of its best fields in a long time.

The event, annually held at the Old Course at Broken Sound in Boca Raton, released some of the names of those who have committed to the event early this week and the list is a who's who on the over 50 circuit. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas…unless you play on the PGA Tour over the next two weeks.

Thanks to some scheduling changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the PGA Tour is taking up residency in Sin City over the next two weeks as it continues the fall slate of its 2020-2021 wraparound season.

This week, the Tour heads to Las Vegas for its annual stop at TPC Summerlin for the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. Next week, though, is where things get interesting.

Due to the pandemic, the Asian Swing, typically the centerpiece of the Tour’s fall slate, had to get drastically changed this year. The CJ Cup, typically contested in Korea at Nine Bridges has been moved to Vegas this year and will be contested at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas.…

It has been quite the year for Jupiter resident golfers, and yet again, another local pro has found the winners circle. LPGA golfer Mel Reid took home the 2020 ShopRite LPGA Classic for her first ever win on the LPGA Tour. The victory gets Reid into the U.S. Women’s Open in December but next up is the third LPGA major of the year – the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship this week at Aronimink outside Philadelphia. 

Reid joins a slew of other golfers from Jupiter, who have won their respective tours in 2020, including Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas and Daniel Berger. Referred to as “Golf’s Hot Spot” in Golf Digest and the “Epicenter of Professional Golf” by GOLF.com, the sunny beachside town of Jupiter Florida is the place to live for today’s pro golfers.

Since 2007 the legends of the game have made a stop in Boca Raton for the PGA TOUR Champions event at the Old Course at Broken Sound Golf Club. This year, the event will return to Broken Sound but not only take place in a month, it will also feature a brand new title sponsor. The TimberTech Championship will be played in front of a national TV audience the week of October 26 to November 1, 2020.

Since its inception, the newly named TimberTech Championship has raised over $2 million for local charities through the Boca Raton Champions Golf Charities (BRCGC), with the Boca Raton Regional Hospital serving as the primary charitable beneficiary.

Located within five miles north of Jupiter in Martin County is the Jonathan Dickinson State Park. The Florida State Park sits between Tequesta and Hobe Sound. The state park is named after a Quaker merchant named Jonathan Dickinson who wreaked his boat off the coast in 1696.

During the second World War, the area served as an Army base and home to Camp Murphy. The barracks are still visible throughout the park today. Following the war, the land was transferred back to the state in 1947 to be used as a state park.  The Jonathan Dickinson State Park officially opened to the public in 1950.
