Important news for Florida drivers, you will soon be able to access your driver’s license on your mobile device. Earlier this week, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles announced that Floridians will be able to access their drivers licenses digitally.

The new system will allow someone to verify your age, identity, and driving privileges through a mobile app, making digital licenses harder to counterfeit.  The system is part of an innovation project that will make Florida a national leader in offering secure and trusted mobile identification, which is the priority of Governor DeSantis.

According to the Florida Department of Highway and Safety and Motor Vehicles director said that the department will be supplied with mobile license verification services as well as mobile license solutions for residents. The director also noted that the licenses will have a secure digitized credential that can be checked for authenticity.

The department has not given an exact date when the digital licenses will be in effect, but it will be sometime in 2021.
