April 2 Is World Autism Awareness Day

Every year on April 2nd hundreds of organizations from around the world take part in World Autism Awareness Day. Land marks from Jupiter's lighthouse to Paris's Eiffel Tower will light up blue in honor of those with autisum. It is a day of celebration and merriment for families and foundations all over the globe. Unique fundraising and awareness raising events take place during this time. 

One in 88 American children have a form of autism. This rate is higher than those diagnosed with juvenile diabetes and cancer combined, according to a study by the United Nations (UN). The secretary general of the UN stated that autism is not “limited to a single region or country, it is a world-wide challenge that requires global action.”

Els For Autism to Host Second Annual Light It Up Blue Night

April 2nd is Autism Awareness Day and what a better way to acknowledge the day and help a worthy cause then at the Square Grouper Tiki Bar. Jupiter resident Ernie Els and the Els for Autism Foundation will be hosting its second annual Light it up Blue night at one of Jupiter’s premier spots.

Guests can enjoy all the beautiful views that the Square Grouper has to offer, including the Intracoastal Waterway and the Jupiter Lighthouse, which will be lit up blue for the evening’s event. Blue is the official color of Autism Awareness and the night will have a blue theme.

MEET FLORIDA HALL OF FAME ARTIST… JACKIE BRICE…APRIL 9, 2013

Friends of MacArthur Beach State Park cordially invite you to meet Florida Hall of Fame landscape artist Jackie Brice.   Brice, a native Floridian, is an award winning professional artist who has been painting since 1967.  She was inducted into the 2012 Florida Artists Hall of Fame.  The Florida Artists Hall of Fame is the highest and most prestigious cultural honor bestowed upon an individual of the State of Florida.

FULL MOON BIKE RIDE

Local Pros Partner with Palm Beach County Golf Association

Some of the biggest names in local golf will be among the sponsors of this year’s Palm Beach County Golf Association season of amateur events. 2013 will mark the 38th season of PBCGA Events that take place at some of the best golf courses and clubs in the county.

The season will kick off this weekend with the Spring Four-Ball event at the Fountains Country Club’s North Course in Lake Worth. There will be 25 events in total and the season will go through the middle of November. Some of the events featured will either be hosted or sponsored by local professional golfers.

PGA Tour Pros Square Off at Medalist Golf Club

Local golfers Tiger Woods, Keegan Bradley, and Rickie Fowler will all be taking advantage of their off week by competing in Medalist Golf Club’s Member-Guest tournament in Hobe Sound.

A Jupiter Island Resident and Medalist Club member, Woods will pair with Golf Channel host Ahmad Rashad. The two will face off against Hall of Fame basketball player and Jupiter resident Michael Jordan and his guest, Tequesta resident and PGA tour pro Keegan Bradley.

Ernie Els to Kick Off Els for Autism Golf Challenge at the Floridian

For the third consecutive year, Els for Autism will host its golf challenge at 21 golf courses in the United States and Canada. The super-regional events will take place from April through September.

Teams will be playing for their “Honorary Captain”, a child on the autism spectrum who they play and fundraise in honor of. A team’s fundraising ability is valued as much as their performance on the course. Teams will compete for a selection of first class Regional prizes and all groups raising at least $13,000 will enjoy a two-day extravaganza of golf and entertainment in Las Vegas hosted by Ernie and his wife Liezel in October.
