If you are from Jupiter or Palm Beach County you can probably reminisce about your memories splashing in the water and swimming through the natural lagoon that is DuBois Park. Many of us have had picnics and long summer days at this iconic Jupiter beach park, but did you know how significant DuBois historically?  

Dubois Park is the site of the Harry and Susan Dubois Pioneer Home.  It is the second oldest house standing in Palm Beach County.  This historic icon of Jupiter was made of Florida pine and had cypress shingles; which over the years were replaced with cedar shingles. The 2016 edition of the Rules of Golf was released on Monday and the their were four major changes made, all with the same theme: simplicity.

In addition to the official addition of the putter anchor ban, which was first announced in May of 2013, three more significan changes were made to the 2016 edition put out by the R&A and the USGA.

“We continually look at ways we can improve and clarify the Rules of Golf,” said David Rickman, the R&A’s executive director of rules and equipment standards. “The R&A and the USGA collaborate closely and we consult with our respective national and international advisory members to produce a code of rules that is relevant to all golfers around the world.”

It is a one-day interactive program provides training and support for underserved girls in Palm Beach County put on by the Girls Leadership Institute, a segment of the Women’s Foundation of Palm Beach County.

There is an ancient sport that is making a comeback in South Florida that is called Dragon Boat Racing. Imagine paddling with a lot of upper physical strength just after undergoing treatments and/ or overcoming breast cancer. In Palm Beach County, dragon boating is regaining popularity and is quickly becoming a movement that is impacting breast cancer survivor’s spirits!

If you never heard of dragon boating, it is one of the fastest growing water sports in the world. It is a team paddling water sport that has its roots in a folk ritual of villagers originally from Southern China. For dragon boat races, the boats are generally assembled with decorative Chinese dragon heads and tails.

Andrew “Red” Harris was a true Jupiter waterman. Whether he was hunting for fish in the Bahamas, searching for lobster under ledges or just snorkeling in the Intracoastal, Andrew’s love for the ocean was always so apparent. On June 8, 2014, our community suffered a heartbreaking loss. This promising 26-year-old was struck by a boat while snorkeling in the Jupiter Inlet.

Martha and Scott Harris want to make sure their son will never be forgotten. The Andrew “Red” Harris Foundation was founded in 2014 to honor Andrew’s memory and keep his legacy alive.
