Starting this October, the PGA Tour will go to year-round scheduling. The season’s will start in October and wrap around to the following calendar year. As a result, there was question whether The World Challenge, hosted by Jupiter Island resident Tiger Woods, would be able to continue to be played the first weekend in December. Well, the future of the event is no longer in doubt and will be back on the schedule this year.

The tournament, which is scheduled for December 5-8 at Sherwood Country Club in California, has raised over $25 million for college-access programs through the Tiger Woods Learning Center and the Earl Woods Scholarship program.

On Monday, the PGA Tour Policy Board acknowledged and accepted the USGA’s ban on anchored putting. Rule 14-1b will take effect on January 1, 2016, the same day that both the USGA and R&A put the rule into effect as well.

anchored_putt_ban_776_02Under the new rule, golfers will no longer be allowed to “anchor” the putter to their bodies in any way. The longer putters will not be banned but once the new rule takes effect, they will not allowed to anchored on any part of the golfer’s body.

Just south of Jupiter, in the ultrachic enclave of Palm Beach, self-proclaimed “King of All Media” Howard Stern may have picked up a lavish beach house. The radio broadcaster and America’s Got Talent judge has been reportedly searching for a home in the area.  
 
According to Palm Beach County records, the property has been purchased through a trust.  The deed does not indicate the identity of the new owner (speculated to be Stern), who paid $52 million on May 15, 2013.   There is no mortgage recorded for the purchase.

The 19,000 square foot beachfront mansion boasts 5 bedrooms, 12.5 baths, and an outdoor swimming pool just steps from the ocean.  Aerial shots of the property reveal manicured grounds, secure wall and gated entry.…

Ernie Els had an impressive showing at the U.S. Open two weeks ago. A final round of 69, one of the low rounds of the day, gave him a fourth place finish. Els took that solid play into this weekend’s BMW International Open in Munich as the Jupiter resident recorded his first win of the season.

The Jupiter resident shot rounds of 63, 69, 69, and 69 to record the wire-to-wire victory at the European Tour event. It was his 28th European Tour title and came just one week after his first top 10 finish of the year at Merion.

The win was also the first by a South African born player in the 25 year history of the event. Entering the weekend with a one shot lead, Els entered the final round in a three way tie at the top. As the other two golfers faltered, Els…

Two new, unnamed stores will replace the former Sandy’s Hallmark Shop and the Bealls Outlet store located in the Publix anchored shopping center in Chasewood Plaza located at 6230 – 6410 West Indiantown Road, Jupiter.  Construction of the new stores is expected to start later this summer. 

The new stores, each expected to be approximately 4,200 square feet, are part of an overall renovation plan that includes demolishing the 13,000 square foot building that contained the Hallmark and the outlet stores.  Parking will be increased with an additional 40 spaces, and the Indiantown Road entrance will be changed to improve traffic flow going in and out.  Plans also call for speed tables and new landscaping on the east side of the plaza at the Bush Road…

No cause for alarm if you notice smoke rising up from picturesque Jonathan Dickinson State Park today.  The Florida Department of Environmental Protection will conduct a “prescribed burn”, weather permitting.  Jonathon Dickinson State Park is located at 16450 S.E. Federal Highway, Hobe Sound just north of Jupiter at the Palm Beach/Martin County line.

The long-awaited completion of the famed Fazio links at the Tequesta Country Club will take place during the summer of 2013, pleasing both amateur golfers and Tour professionals who have memberships there when it re-opens in November.

Tom Fazio II began the project a few years ago with the goal of creating an enhanced natural setting, using plants that require less maintenance. The entire course will be re-sodded.

The project also lengthened the course by 350-plus yards, to 6,850, included new bunkers and involved the installation of a new pump system for irrigation.

Those with memberships will be able to take advantage of reciprocity partnerships set up with other golf communities in Palm Beach County.
