Norton Museum of Art Opening Celebration
Tomorrow, Saturday Feburary 9th is the big day for the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach. The museum opens its doors after eight years of construction and renovations. The museum has undergone a $100 million renovations that were done by the award-winning British Architectural Design and Engineering firm, Foster + Partners.
The museum had to start fundraising campaigns to raise $100 million dollars for the renovations and continued to raise money until the renovations were completed.
The Norton Museum of Art was originally built in 1941 to house the art collection of the industrialist Ralph Hubbard Norton. Today, the museum is known for its massive collection of contemporary art galleries and exhibits. The new renovations to the museum include a new transparent entrance lobby, an additional 12,000 square feet of art gallery space, an educational center, better lighting to the original galleries, a maze garden and a restaurant that includes both indoor and outdoor seating.
The big grand celebration will take place tomorrow morning starting at 9:30 am. The festivities will start with coffee, and a light breakfast with music by The Millennials Band on the Heyman Plaza entrance way. The Grand Opening Celebration will start at 10 am with an opening parade procession animated by hundreds of collage ornaments and puppets designed by the New York based Professional Arts Workshop, community members and led by the Florida Atlantic University’s Parliament Sound Pep Band. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will take place right after at 10:30 am to open the new Norton Museum.
