There is no shortage of places for you to enjoy hiking in South Florida. Here are some of the most scenic hiking spots in Palm Beach County and Martin County.

Pondhawk Natural Area: Located in Boca Raton, this Natural Area centers around a man-made lake named Blue Lake. Palm Beach County purchased the land from IBM, they integrated the lake and its natural surrounding areas and created eight acres of wetlands that heron, white ibis and osprey’s can call home. The natural area is a total of 79 acres and features hiking trails, wildlife viewing areas, wetlands, biking trails and much more. Pondhawk Natural Area is located at 1501 Spanish River Boulevard in Boca Raton.

Delray Oaks: Located in Delray Beach, this small natural area features two trails, a paved Live Oak Trail and a sandy Beautyberry Trail. There is plenty of shade under the canopies of oak trees, cabbage palm trees and strangler fig trees draped in Spanish moss. The 25 acres is home to many resident and migratory birds including the blue-gray gnatcatcher, several species of warblers and the re-shouldered hawk. Delray Oaks is located at 2021 SW 29th Street in Delray Beach.

Royal Palm Beach Pines: Located in Royal Palm Beach, this giant 772- acre natural area has a ton of stuff to do. The natural area has plenty of walking and hiking trails, wetlands, swamps, depression marsh, observation platforms, and plenty of wildlife. Hikers have even spotted bald eagles, great horned owls, eastern box turtle, southern cricket frog, and bobcats roaming around the natural area. Royal Palm Beach Pines main entrance is located at 110 Nature’s Way in Royal Palm Beach. There is also a north entrance located at 13500 40th Street North in Royal Palm Beach.

Grassy Waters Preserve: Located in West Palm Beach has over 23-square miles of preserve and is a system of the tropical wetlands and is a true Everglades experience. Today, the preserves serves as the freshwater supply for Palm Beach. Grassy Waters Preserve features many walking or hiking trails, canoeing, kayaking, wildlife viewing, a Nature Center, and much more. Grassy Waters Preserve is located at 8264 Northlake Boulevard in West Palm Beach.

Jonathan Dickinson State Park: Located in Hobe Sound, has over 10,500 acres of natural areas. This state park has over 60 miles of ocean to lake trails and features extreme Florida landscapes such as desert like dunes, and river swamps. Jonathan Dickinson State Park features an observation tower, plenty of wildlife viewing, and has the highest natural point south of Lake Okeechobee known as Hobe Mountain. Hobe Mountain is an ancient sand dune that is 86 feet above sea level. Jonathan Dickinson State Park is located at 16450 SE Federal Highway in Hobe Sound.
