Self-Guided Beach Cleanup Every Saturday Morning

Posted by Ali Kane on Wednesday, May 5th, 2021 at 10:35am.

Every Saturday morning, the Loggerhead Marinelife Center hosts their Self-Guided Beach Clean Up for the public to help keep our beaches in Palm Beach County clean. Now more than ever, the sea turtle research and rehabilitation center needs your help.

Sea Turtle Nesting Season begins in early March and go until the end of October. The 9.5 miles span between the northern Palm Beach County line to the northern boundary of John D. MacArthur Beach State Park is where thousands of sea turtles lay their eggs.  This area is one of the most populated sea turtle nesting areas in the world. The main reason why is the proximity to the Sargasso Sea, a region in the Atlantic Ocean and the gulf stream current that bends towards Florida. During this time, the Loggerhead Marinelife Center monitors the beaches daily for new sea turtle nests.

The Self-Guided Beach Clean Up is every Saturday beginning at 8:30 am until 11 am. Those who wish to participate are asked to stop by the back deck of the Loggerhead Marinelife Center to grab a bucket and supplies before heading to the beach. Once the bucket is full, bring the bucket back to the Loggerhead Marinelife Center to the sorting station.

Most recently the Town of Jupiter has installed clean up stations at local parks for the public to help keep Jupiter free of litter and debris. The project is part of Jupiter’s partnership with the Beach Bucket Foundation. The mission of the project is to bring awareness and community involvement to help keep our local beaches and towns clean.

Waterfront Properties has sponsored clean up buckets are four local clean up stations. Visitors can grab a bucket from the clean up station and help the community by picking up litter and debris along the way. Once the bucket is full, bring it back to the clean up stations and empty the trash in the trash area and put the bucket back for someone else to help. The Waterfront Properties Buckets are located at Coral Cove Park in Tequesta, The Civic Center in Jupiter, Carlin Park in Jupiter, and Ocean Cay Park in Juno Beach.
