South Florida Publix Supermarkets has issued a mask mandate. The major grocery retailer announced Thursday each customer will be required to wear face coverings starting Tuesday, July 21, 2020. Publix feels it is their way to contribute to keep the community healthy and safe.

With the number of coronavirus cases continuing to grow and current CDC guidelines, signs announcing the new requirement will be posted at store entrances, and in-store announcements will be made.

All stores have implemented a heightened ongoing disinfection program focusing on high-touch surfaces like touchpads, door and drawer handles, phones and computers, and continued cleaning and sanitization of stores. It has installed plastic barrier shields at checkout, customer service and pharmacy registers.

Publix Supermarkets said any employee who tests positive for COVID-19 will be given 14 days of paid sick leave.
