Blown glass makes for unique and striking art, but do you have any idea how it is made?  The Benzaiten Center for Creative Arts, located in Lake Worth, is a private nonprofit organization located in the Historic FEC Train Depot in the heart of downtown Lake Worth. Located in the Lake Worth Arts District, the Center “brings art to life, immersing the public in arts production and its creative processes, while providing direct interaction with artists from around the world.”

Palm Beach Opera’s first-ever outdoor festival, February 19 – 27, 2021, features a star-studded cast of live performances. See performances of iconic operas such as: La Bohème, Pagliacci, and Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) at the South Florida Fairgrounds’ iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre, located at 601-7 Sansbury Way, West Palm Beach.

The performances will feature international opera performers as well as the Palm Beach Opera Orchestra and Chorus. All performances will feature socially distanced singers, orchestra, and chorus members, as well as large screens to display close-ups of the performance. A wide range of different cuisines and beverages purchased at the amphitheater throughout the event.

In South Florida during the 1950’s through 1980’s, 26 self-taught African American artists grew to be known as The Highwaymen. GardensArt in Palm Beach Gardens is hosting an exhibit by The Highwaymen.  The exhibit will run through March 4, 2021.  They spent their weekends selling their artwork out of their cars because during segregation, African American artists were not permitted to sell their artwork in galleries.

As an additional source of income for those who might otherwise be working in citrus groves or packinghouses, these artists painted.  Unable to get canvas, these artists painted the oil paintings on old construction supplies, like Upson board. Upson board was an affordable fiberboard comprised of recycled wood.

The 3rd Annual Waste to Wonder Exhibit is being presented at GalleRe, Resource Depot, in Palm Beach County January 22, 2021 – March 11, 2021. The Resource Depot, 2508 Florida Avenue, West Palm Beach is a non for profit 501c3 organization and all donations are tax deductible. For 21 years, Resource Depot has tackled Palm Beach County’s growing waste problem by rescuing unwanted and excess materials, turning waste into wonder. The Richard and Pat Johnson Palm Beach County History Museum is located at 300 North Dixie Highway West Palm Beach. The historical museum is within the walls of the historic 1916 Courthouse in downtown West Palm Beach.  Learn about the rich and diverse history of Palm Beach County which has been preserved by the Historical Society of Palm Beach County. 

The Historical Society was formed in 1937, West Palm Beach lawyer A. Stanley Bussey donated a vintage black-and-white photograph of an island street scene to the newly established Society.
